Already in place in Italy and soon in the UK, there is a factory-supported program called "With You", which is essentially a red carpet roadside service for every Ferrari built since 1947. From what I gather there is no cost to the owner and all expenses, even including hotels and travel home, are covered.

The only "catch" apparently, is that the recovered Ferrari must be taken to an "authorized service center" ("dealership" to us).

This information is from the October, 2009, issue of Classic and Sports Car magazine.

Has anybody heard if there are any plans to offer this service in the US?

The program is a Road Side Assistance program; you break down, they send a flat bed to take your vehicle to the nearest dealer and arrange a rental vehicle in the meantime.

That would be the whole purpose of the program, to try to get the "do I really have to change the timing belt every three years?" crowd with older used Ferraris (pre-F430) to ante up for dealer service.

As far as I'm aware even those that signed up in the UK when it launched a few months ago have still had no details (such as who to call.....)

I'm cynical but not that cynical. Frankly, with a 42 year old Ferrari, something like this would give me some peace of mind and would encourage me to drive the car on longer trips.

But it's a moot point as I would be astonished if this program came to the US.

    Jack.

Why on earth would anyone trade the abilty to pick your own mechanic for a free tow ?

AAA s what ? $70 year ans you get to take your car to any repair should you want.

There are probably locals with no qualified independent shops so owners have to use authorized shops...and I feel for those people paying 50% more than they should...but I cant imagine there are that many.

If they don't have a "100 mile max" rule now, I'll bet they get one after you cash in!

I will have to really save up for that first freebie one until they catch on. "Yeah, I have a loose plug wire, can you get it to Seattle and back...free?"

In Late July and early August I drove my F355 to WV from Texas. Comming back A water radiator blew out in the middle of no-where-ville Indianna (Lynnville actually). A flat bed to the nearest Ferrari dealership would have gone back to Columbus Oh and cost $1500 whereas the Flatbed to Evansville and a Porsche mechanic cost only $100.

Now is where the arithmetic becomes a little hazy. The Ferrari dealer would have had me on the road by the later portion of the next day. The Porsche mechanic took 5 days (most of it waiting for the radiator--but at leat 1 day waiting to get into it to figure out what blew).

If I had just put myself up in a hotel, the overall bill would have been rather similar. That is saving $1400 in the flat bed fee would have been spent in hotels, food and entertainment. However, I had relatives 2 hours away (which is why I was in Indianna to begin with) they came up to get me, and my expenses were not-so-bad.

Mitch, if you don't mind me asking, who did the work? D-Patrick Porsche or was it Foreign Performance?
