2 top drives cannot be in one team period
I don't think the brass at Mercedes will appreciate if Hamilton starts thinking he is bigger than the team. They got what they want: their cars finish regularly in a 1-2 formation, and collect the title at the end of the year. Rosberg is very compliant with instructions, whilst Hamilton keeps complaining about team tactics. They will soon draw their conclusion, I think, if they cannot control Hamilton's outbursts. Without Hamilton in the team, Mercedes would still win in the dominant car; Rosberg has the speed and the skill.
I agree and I must say that I think Hamilton already thinks he is bigger than the team and Mercedes would still be floundering without him. If Mercedes had not hired him, Nico would have two WDC's under his belt, imo.
WTF are you on about? The whole purpose of any successful business is to increase their customer base. More customers, more money. If a consumer prefers 1 brand over another (ecological pursuits over motor racing), it is the successful business that can make a non-customer a customer. Create the need or want where there previously was none. If having a "stylish, young, successful" driver as the poster-boy for F1 can help lure non-customers then that's the successful formula. F1 can not survive of their majority fan-base is on their death-beds. Gotta keep it fresh.
Agreed. Also, I don't think Mercedes needs Hamilton. Hamilton needs Mercedes. If Hamilton was in a Red Bull this year... much of his swag would go away. He would just be a grumbly little guy on the track. His ego needs a top car. I don't think he can build a team and top car. The Mercedes car is so dominant I think a driver such as Bottas or Massa or any other strong mid/best of the rest drivers could win a championship in that car. While I am a massive ferrari fan... I would love to see a Kimi rosberg swap and cheer for Kimi. I think he would be the best person to stuff it in Hamiltons face. I like Hamilton he is obviously an amazing driver... but I dislike the off track antics personally. Not that that is what matters in formula 1.
I read the article as a swipe at Elton, I would so love to see the look on his face if he got canned! Too funny. Just hope he ends up begging uncle Ron for Alonso's then vacant seat, and being told no!
Very interesting actually. Mercedes definitely has a ton of leverage here with the state of their car and program. Hamilton negotiated his own deal; wonder what Merc snuck in there if anything. Nico is clearly the "nicer guy" here IMO...perhaps to a fault. You don't have to be the best driver in F1 to win in the best car though as has been proven in the past. Whatever they do, I just hope it causes chaos and an opportunity for Ferrari and Vettel.
I doubt very much that Hamilton thinks Mercedes would be floundering without him. You may not think him very bright but I'm fairly sure he can work out that the guy who finished runner up in the WDC would have won it if the guy who finished first wasn't there!
Or Verstappen could easily fill Hams seat quite well I think. There should have been a poll so we could just easily vote who we think will or should go.
Yes and no.....some people have claimed that Mercedes only became as good as it is when Lewis joined the team. I'm not convinced that there's any connection.
yep....and I can't decide which. I suspect, however, that Lewis would be much more difficult to work with....just going by radio chatter etc.
Bernie had EVERYTHING to do with Hamilton leaving McLaren for Mercedes...he brokered the deal for the reasons being stated.
