As of today, the car will not go into 5th or 6th. It's as if the gear shift is not going far enough to engage these gear. It goes back to 3rd instead of 5th .the shifter doesn't have the tension that it had before

I had something similar happen in another car and it turned out to be a clip. I figure its something easy and diagrams would help.

I had same issue before, at I replaced the shifter bushing, helped but did not completely eliminate the problem. It turned out to be shifter cable, had it adjusted, shifts perfectly since.

I had the same problem and it ended up being the reverse lockout plate, located underneath the gate plate. It wasn't allowing the shifter shaft to move all the way over to engage 5th or 6th. Even though I loosened up the assembly and moved the plate all the way over to the right, it still wasn't enough. I had 20 mil shaved off of the inside right surface, and, voila! Perfect shifts.

I would bet it was the bushing.. When you have to "molest" other parts to fix an issue, the underlying issue was never corrected, only temporarily masked....

The shift cables & that bushing need to be PERFECT. .. again we debated this before but I really spent alot of time messing with fractions of mm's & it MUST be perfect...

Not beating a dead horse but something else is out of alignment..
