Greetings All! This is my first post. I joined the Brotherhood by purchasing a 1992 348ts last August from Victory Motorsports in Houston, TX. It had 57k miles and underwent a massive overhaul from Ferrari of Houston before going on sale. The car ("Red") has been everything I dreamed of as a child and teenager (except for the slow power windows... lol!). I've put almost 3k miles on it. A couple of weekends ago, I went to shift it into 2nd and there was no resistance from the shifter. It acted as if it were in neutral. Same for 3rd. I can still shift it into 1st, 4th, 5th, and reverse with no problems. I figured a pin must have broken off (I hope it's that simple). Any opinions or feedback on how to fix Red would be greatly appreciated. And I apologize for waiting so long to post. Thanks in advance! -Grinch
You can hope that the actuator finger for the 2/3rd gear (which are on the same actuator) has broken or slipped out of the right position and does not engage. Another possibility is a broken fork. Either way, the easiest thing is to drain the gear oil (need to lift the car), check the sump plug for debris, and remove the inspection plate and have a good look in. Failing anything obvious (like a broken bolt, fork or other big pieces) then you need to take the gearbox out and remove its cover and have a good look in there... It is not going to be a little job, and expect about 15-20 hours of labor to take the box off and diagnose. Replacement forks aren't cheap either... Search for my posts (click on my name and find all my posts) I have torn my gearbox out twice and have a lot of pictures on that... Also look at http://public.me.com/mbussadori for the 348 workshop manual for more information, or look at www.eurospares.co.uk (then search for the 348, mechanicals, gearbox controls) to look at the part schematics... Damn! And I was hoping for an easy fix. Thanks for the response and the picture. I'll check out the links and plan my next step. -GRNCH
