So yea, is another thread same title but I have already swapped the sensor as proved successful in the prior thread (my old Masser 4200 had same sensor that I broke for parts and still have gearbox) and this may be an expected issue in my odd situation - but looking for validation/suggestions.

My ABS/ASR unit is 100% bricked. It's been to SinSpeed and it's not repairable with the parts they have on hand - suspect water damage. thus, although now again fitted back in the car, it is not communicating with the rest of the canbus etc.

I have a replacement ABS/ASR unit still working it's way though UK customs (massive thanks to @iamahorse on here) but my hope is to get back on the road my mid next week for a bit of a road trip to Belgium to visit Spa.

Although now running fine engine wise... it won't shift past 2nd gear. I also have the red bonnet open light on the dash (not the amber big one).

    * front and rear microswitches on enginelid/frunk tested working - and cable tied closed for diagnosis.
    * all brake lights working as they should and all brake wiring continuity fine with of course exception of the ABS/ASR missing.
    * brake light switch tested ok but also tried new one.
    * shift sensor swapped with known good one.
    * fluid levels good in f1 gbox and pump is priming fine on door open and again after couple of shifts.
    * pressure also shows good on diag.
    * no codes on gbox beyond the cant communicate with ABS/ASR.
    * my lauch diag can also select all the gears at my request and will run through a self learn with no issues shifting its way up the gears with no issues.

So I'm hoping this is all down to ABS/ASR unit but does anyone have any other tests I can perform to rule out any other issues that would prevent shifting beyond 2nd?

If I do get the unit this week I'll have very little time to get it in so anything I can do to rule out potential additional issues would be great!

    In summary -

    - Anything else that I could look at causing the open hatch light?
    - Anything beyond the open hatch light that would prevent going beyond 2nd gear?

    Suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Regarding the 2nd gear issue:
Check the actuator isn’t leaking oil. This can/will leak on to the potentiometers and cause this problem.
You can guess how I know…
Hope this isn’t the case. Not a cheap fix.

The gearbox won’t shift past 2nd gear without a vehicle speed signal from the ABS/ASR ECU. Don’t waste your time looking further.

Are you sure it’s not a F1 gear lever symbol rather than a car bonnet symbol?

Ian is correct. The car will not shift past 2nd gear sitting still. Since you have no ABS / ASR module which calculates and supplies the vehicle speed from one of the sensor, the car thinks it is sitting still and will not shift past 2nd gear.

    Some info to help

TCU limp mode is where 1st, 2nd, neutral and reverse are only allowed
This mode is set by one of the following - all data can be seen in TCU live data stream using AP200
Sensor failure - this would be a p174* code
Engine Rpm - check data in TCU
Gearbox Rpm - check live data as you drive
Vehicle speed - check live data as you drive
Brake pedal pressed - check live data as you drive
Ignition relay - check in live data
Can bus transmission or recived error messages in TCU
    Bad ground

As you can see if you connect a tool that can read your TCU - you can see what is causing the issue - most likely Vehicle speed ( as mentioned above) will not be a good value in TCU live data - you wanted confirmation so you can see if that is the only issue by looking at data

right - so after UK customs and our useless postal service delays - the "imahorse" ABS/ASR unit was stuffed in today and, as Ian already pointed out... away goes the the little boot lid warning and no more ASR/ABS coms issues and it happily goes through all the gears with just ignition on and also with engine running. bled the brakes with a pressured bleeder and all works as it should - did some loose surface stops etc as dont have SD2 etc to trigger ABS bleed - but think i got it all happy.

I'm not out the woods yet though unfortunatley...

I've now got a couple of throttle signal issues showing on one of the ecus - seems to be only therefore running on one TB until i clear then ok for a bit on 8 cylinders then occurs again and back to four.

and most oddly after driving a bit the throttle pedal stopped talking to both throttle bodies - much like when i found dodgy brake wiring when i first got the car!

also now got something odd when flicking through gears on occasion if refuses to shift and give an angry little beep - no errors or codes shown on diag or dash - shows like 50 on hyro pressure - but does feel little like a failure i had with my masser when the f1 pump gave up... i do still have the alfa one i replaced the broken one with so perhaps worth sticking that in as only did a few hundred miles.

basically lots still gooing on and i need to do a proper session testing stuff :)

At least I've got one thing of the list! sadly not looking good for Spa, but at least its progress of sorts.

    Thanks again for suggestions folks.

And of course massive thanks to Dustin (imahorse)
