Lucky you. I have been to the Detriot car show. Detroit. January. Gang Bangers. Wasteland...

As to which press day to go to, you probably need to go to both if you can. Different companies roll out new cars on different days.

Whatever you do, get out of town before the opening on Sat. The first Sat night is known as the gang banger ball. I'm not kidding.

Wow the gangs hit the auto show? No kidding?

Please elaborate... are we talking cars being stolen or people being mugged/jacked/killed? Do the cops not come out? Are they hanging around outside or do they make their way in????

Sounds wild. I do a bike show in Detroit in January... maybe I will skip it if its that bad! I do Manhattan in Feb and TONS of "hard core" bikers there and we get along great with them - I love 'em. Maybe its just a detroit thing?

 

I have been going to the Media Days at the LA Auto Show for the last couple of years. It's a lot of fun! WAY better than the public days (obviously). I was behind the ropes sitting in F430s and Lambo Murci Roadsters last year. I don't know about Detroit, but the LA Show is much less crowded during the Media Days as well, which makes it nice. Have fun!

 

The first Saturday night of the show is traditionally when the bangers come out. My first time there I noticed these platoons of cops coming in right around 6:00 pm. I then noticed similar group of bros all doing their git down thang (whatever that is). Apparently, they don't mix it up inside CABO. Outside is another story. My hotel was right across the street. You could hear sirens going all night. Apparently, it was a slow night. Only two girls shot each other.

Before Dr. Who gets you too worked up realize that Press Days are not open to the public. The public show doesn't open until January 14, well after your passes expire.

The show is at Cobo Hall. CABO is place where Californians go on vacation...

Nah.....Detroit in January sounds like fun (I do apologize...the Canadian in me made an unscheduled appearance just now). Well, congrats.....and have fun, regardless of the temperature.

 

I think you are exagerating a bit. I think there was one incident that involved Gangs, maybe 2 at most. It doesn't happen every first Saturday night of the Auto Show like you suggest. Most likely there will be more security there too since the Super Bowl is in Detroit a few weeks after the auto show. Also I have never heard of the first Saturday night being known as the gang banger ball. Detroit isn't the best city and all of us in Southeastern Michigan know that. But I think your reference to the gang banger ball isn't completey true and not fair to the city. Now if you want to talk about how poor the highways are in Detroit I will gladly support that.

Press days are becoming more and more packed each year. The last 2 years I have gone during press week hoping to avoid crowds and I was disappointed at how many people were there. You will still have a good time though. Get there as early as you can to avoid crowds even on press days.

 

Your "significant others" don't have to go! (pls don't tell or show her) I'll go!! I know you lxxx me!!!
