Well it seems my current job is leaving me with little money to do some of the essental things (like rent, bills, and most important of all paying for my commercial ticket). So I figure its time to start looking for pays a bit more.

I have thought about working as a security screener with the TSA seeing how they are hiring but, I have a question. Will working as a screener be an advisable move? The last thing I want is to end up burning bridges because I was following procedure and had to take some nail clippers away from a flight crew. Or am I being way to cautious about my next move?

    Hi,

I'm not sure I understand. If someone gets personal over your having to follow procedure in a job that you must have, then I must say that's a bridge that can (and should) be burned. I, for one, would rather deal with professionals.

hey, It's a job, and any respectable person knows it. weather you agree or not with TSA procedures is irelevent. a security screener doesn't make the rule, only follows it...

Go for it... just remember to follow the rules, especially with the flight crews. If you happen to take some nail clippers away from the chief pilot, and he is on the interview board, you will actually look better to them, because you were following protocol. Get a good record as being a safety conscious screener, and it will help you get a job as a safety conscious pilot.

Small update, I just got an email saying they want me to come in to do a computerized test. It should not be too hard seeing how I did make it through insturment training (if you can make it through that you should handle about anything) :D.

My son, who is a furloughed airline pilot, works for the TSA, and as Mario G. said, " Its a job." holds true. You will be working with people who are stretched to cope with the work and those who have to cope with it because its a job. You will run the gammet of slack-jawed mouth-breathers to guys who have flown 767's. You can, however, make it work to your advantage by simply applying some drive and smarts.

Yep, I belive I can make it work. Not only will it offer some more money to fly and get that commercial ticket done (which is being a pain because of said cash flow), but I think I can end up learning alot.
