Well my Astros have finally done it. They made history and are moving onto the second round of the playoffs for the first time ever and facing the St. Louis Cardinals. I say the Astros will beat the Cards in 7 games and move on to the World Series.

What is you prediction of who will be in the World Series this year?
I'm predicting the Astros and Red Sox. Would make for an exciting series, especially since both teams seem to be doing just about everything right and both would be making their own history.

This is the one with the little round ball, right? or the big elliptical one?

    I dunno. I don't really follow sports.

Cards/Yanks, at which time i'll be rooting for the lesser of two evils.

    I think that's the Cards.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing the 'stros in there.

But just wait until next year, the Cubbies'll show everybody! Yeah, that's the ticket....

Houston and NY Yanks. I say it goes 7 games and will be a 10th inning win for Houston.

I would pick Houston to beat St. Louis, but it's going to be awfully tough with the Astro's pitching rotation as it is. They absolutely need a win in game one (or a couple of days of rain).

    Cards/Yanks: Cards in 5, but I'm biased.

If by some miracle Houston beats St. Louis in the NLCS, I hope that the Red Sox advance and win the World Series. If for no other reason all of the crap about the Bambino's Curse will finally be over.

Then next year Cubs win to finish that curse. Unfortunately we would have to endure even more of monosyllabic Sammy Sosa on Sportscenter.

But the Cardinals are just packing too much wood for the Yankee/Red Sox/Astros pitchers.

I'm hoping for the Astros to beat the Cards and meet the Sox in the WS. But that all hinges on the Sox managing to beat those FILTHY Yankees. I think anything could happen in that series!

Cards need Rolen (especially) and Edmonds to hit better than they did against the Dodgers if they are to beat Houston. They can't expect Renteria to keep up the pace he's been on (although he is an excellent clutch player).

I have a hunch that Sammy's not gonna be slugging for the Cubs any more. Watch for him in KC or NY.

    World series: Astros vs. Yankees

The winner: Astros is what I'm hoping, but Yankees should go all the way. If they lose, I can see the owner spending more money to collect more marquee players, which I enjoy just like looking at exotic cars at shows.

My dad works in baseball (scout) and he agrees with you. He also was the front office for a couple of teams, so i think ill listen to him about this kind of stuff.

Last I heard, they needed a gimmick to fill the stands. I believe I also heard that the Rangers are expressing interest in his contract.

Jeremy, they unloaded Beltran at mid-season because they couldn't afford him. Beltran is making half what Sosa does, is probably twice the all-around player at this point, and has a much bigger upside. That's why I can't see it happening.

But of course, I never imagined ARod on the NYY, so what do I know? :)

BTW, I absolutely DO agree with you that the Cubs would (and should) want to get rid of him.

if the yanks do pick him up he prob would DH, b/c Sheffield i think is better. Giambi would go back to first and they would trade Olerud (one of the nicest guys you will ever meet) and few others for some rookie prospect pitcher which they need.

true, im taking an educated guess based on years of expeirence with the game and how it works. If this were to happen, they would have 1 slow runner on the team, and 1 semi bad hitter (Miguel Cario) on the team. By the way, im not a yankees fan, i hate them with a passion.

Quite a remarkable game last night. I expect more of the same for the rest of the NYY-BOS series.

However, word is that Schilling's ankle injury may possibly sideline him. If that's true, I think it shifts the favorite's role from the Sox to the Yanks.
