Would you say the 7th gen T-Bird, was perhaps the biggest muscle car of all time? 1972-76 Thunderbird Just always had this thought seeing Jack Cassidy chasing Clint Eastwood in The Eiger Sanction (1975) movie, lol. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Biggest as in L-O-N-G: Yes (18.8') Biggest as in H-E-A-V-Y: Yes * 1972 specs: 212 HP & 4,515# = 21.3 #/HP * 1977 specs: 202 HP & 5,004# = 24.8 #/HP 0-60 times probably measured with a sun dial.
I had a '71 T Bird, and it was a tank. 390 wasn't a bad engine, but just too much weight to push around. I did flip the air cleaner and took my mom's '67 390 T-Bird to the drag strip. 17.90 was the best I could turn. Almost any economy car can equal that today. Not a musclecar in my opinion.
By that point, the Thunderbird was part of that grand disco era car category known as "Personal Luxury Cars". Include the Pontiac Grand Prix (had to be the longest hood available at the time), Olds Cutlass, Chevy Monte Carlo, etc.... These were not muscle cars by any stretch of the imagination.
Pontiac 2+2 (4-speed and 421ci with three two barrel carbs) ? The last series 2+2 with the 428ci motor was probably even larger. A few odd-ball full size station wagons could also be equipped with the same motor and trans.
I was thinking Fury GT with 6 Pack circa '70 or possibly the Toronado GT. Maybe the Letter series 300s were larger in overall dimensions.
the dodge or plymouth super bird. Don't know the length but it was 2 ft longer then the Fury and wins hands down and with a 440 six pack or hemi was considered a muscle car had the clothes rack wing and 425 hp..
