http://www.wftv.com/news/2732086/detail.html Scared of snakes ??? Even the smallest garter snakes scare the living **** out of me....check this link out for photos. The short article is posted below. --------------------- JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Indonesian villagers claim to have captured a python that is 49.21 feet long and weighs nearly 1,000 pounds, a local official said Monday. If confirmed, it would be the largest snake ever kept in captivity. Hundreds of people have flocked to see the snake at a primitive zoo in Curugsewu village on the country's main island of Java, Republika daily reported. It splashed two large pictures of the reptile across its back page. Local government official Rachmat said the reticulated python measured 14.85 meters (49 feet) and weighed in at 447 kilograms (985 pounds). The Guinness Book of World Records lists the longest ever captured snake to be 9.75 meters (32 feet). The heaviest--a Burmese Python kept in Gurnee, Illinois--weighs 182.76 kilograms (403 pounds), the book said on its Web site. Rebublika said the snake, which was caught last year but only recently put on public display, eats three or four dogs a month. Reticulated pythons are the world's longest snakes. They are capable of eating animals as large as sheep, and have been known to attack and consume humans. The species is native to the swamps and jungles of Southeast Asia.
I hate to break it to those villagers, but my girlfriend found the worlds largest snake not long after we started dating. Luke.
This one is/was I guess your current record holder. I'm one of those weirdos that is into keeping huge snakes as pets. There is no doubt that thing is a monster and could probably sell for over $30,000 I'm guessing. However as the article states feeding a snake like that is a huge expense and you have to feed it large animals just to keep it going. Let that thing get a hold of you and your dead in less than 30 seconds. I have a 8 foot boa and she can be a pain to handle sometimes.
Actually it really doesn't look any bigger than the old record holder "Fluffy". I think it might be close but it doesn't look 49ft long. I'd like to see more pics. This is Fluffy.
Cool...! i had a Red Tail Boa Constrictor when i was a kid... He was just over 5 feet long when i moved out... This thing sounds HUGE... i wouldn't mind seeing it person...
For some reason I thought Anacondas were the longest snakes. I've always loved snakes. As a kid I had many garter snakes. Best snakes for me were the king snakes. Very pretty, tame, and didn't get too large. I had a coachwhip that was really long and tame, but just very hyper. I think an Indigo would be a great pet too. I still might get a king snake, I have all the stuff. Last one 5 years ago died before full grown. As seen many times on FC before, here's our "outdoor" pet that guards the 328...
I found this... Top Ten Longest Snakes #1) Reticulated Python 10.7m(35') #2) Green Anaconda 8.5m(28") #3) Indian Python 7.6m(25') #4) Diamond Python 6.4m(21') #5) King Cobra 5.8m(19') #6) Boa Constrictor 4.9m(16') #7) Bushmaster 3.7m(12') #8)Giant Brown Snake 3.4m(11') #9) Diamondback Rattlesnak 2.7m(9') #10) Indigo Snake 2.4m(8') --- Bushmaster, wish I could fit that onto a vanity plate.
Anacondas are the heaviest due to the fact that they are water snakes and don't have to travel through the trees. The retics are the long ones but they are a little slimmer for moving through the branches.
Wow I stand corrected!!!!!!!!!! This thing is a freaking monster!!! Watch the video. It eats 3-4 dogs a month! That smashes the old record for sure. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3845750/
Wow cool I thought I was the only freak that had snakes. Had a gopher snake in 6th grade. and a baby boa in 7th. then a 6 foot boa at age, mid 20's then a ball python when I was 30 and a few baby boas, Oh ya a baby burmese python. No more snakes for me tho. there just a novalty
If confirmed, it would be the largest snake ever kept in captivity. Can this snake be rented? If so, A)I'd like it locked in a slither-in closet with my ex-wife. B)Wait until the screaming stops... and then some. C)Retrieve snake to let it take an ex-wife sized crap.
That's really terrifying, especially since I absolutely hate snakes (and spiders). But the part that really bothers me is that it seems that they are feeding dogs to this beast? That's awful.
