"10 Commandments' was a cornball hoot by today's standards. With that in mind, Robinson was perfect. So was the snaky seductress that played Pharoah's wife. Actually, I don't see how the studios could expect anyone to take "Commandments" seriously.

Another over-the-top role in a costume epic was Peter Ustinov as Nero in Quo Vadis...pure silly fruitcake fun.

Best bit of later casting that comes to mind: De Niro as Satan, or "Lou Cypher", in "Angel Heart."

Worst: The entire cast of CSI Miami. The only good actors on that show are the ones playing the bodies.
Best: William Petersen (Gil Grissom in CSI)

Hollywood is perpetually inept at casting women from comics (except MP as Catwoman...meow). Margot Kidder, Kirsten Dunst, Kate Bosworth (pretty, but boring), Jessica Alba and Halle Berry...all perfectly miscast for their roles.

By that criteria, I'd have to point to the american re-make of "Shall We Dance?"

Richard Gere might have been able to watch the original (in Japanese) without sub-titles, but he was massively all wrong as the bland, successful but nearly invisible cog, going through a classic mid-life crisis.

And J-Lo looked like her only dance experience involved a brass pole.

Together, they demonstrated something Broadway has always known and Hollywood has never admitted: That it's easier to teach dancers to act than to teach actors to dance.

Among the Lakota, I'm called "Dances with Two Left Feet", and even I was LMAO at the so-called "dancing" in that turkey.
I can't imagine what actual ballroom dancers were thinking.

But, in that same film, Susan Sarandon went miles beyond the original film with the role of the wife.

Of course, the whole film lost something in translation, as traditional japanese values place a stigma on contact dancing in public that is lacking in western culture. Which is all the more apt in the context of a bland cog who comes alive through a hobby that you'd hesitate to mention in the office. I was trying to think of a western culture equivalent: something legal but politically incorrect as a hobby. (Give it a few years, and auto racing may fall into that category.)
(But western culture has more of the opposite: something illegal but generally accepted -- such as street racing.)

But there's your criteria for you: Gere ruined the role of a bland cog by portraying a prettyboy lawyer instead, and Sarandon just made her character stand out.

If you get a chance to see the original, it's worth reading the sub-titles for.
I'm not sure the remake even worked as "just a chick flick" (which the original wasn't).

I've always thought that Jeremy Brett, who portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the PBS "Mystery" series, was absolutely perfect in that role, really well cast in the part.

Best: Edward Norton. He plays characters that I hate. Then I realize that's some great acting if I actually hate that character.

Bad: Jean-Claude Van Damme. Ranked up (down?) there with Steven Seagal.
I also find Cameron Diaz annoying. Notice how she ends up shaking her booty somewhere in her movies? That takes great acting skills... (BTW, I'm NOT gay. And I wouldn't kick her out of my bed:))

Best Cast of Road to Perdition Tom Hanks did a excellent job playing this multi dimensional character that not a lot of actors could have pulled off. I would love to see him play a truly dark character like Edward Norton in American History X.
Paul Newman In one of his last roles he was excellent as the mob boss. His last scene in the movie he has no lines but just watching his face i and how he reacts is so powerful.
Jude Law He was so creepy as the hit man hired to kill Hanks and his kid.

Worst Tom Cruise In every movie I've ever seen he just seems to be playing Tom Cruise.

The only movies I thought were any good starring Kevin Costner were No Way Out and Mr. Brooks.

Everything else was just crap, even the acclaimed movies like Dances With Wolves. Probably my favorite miscasting was him as Robin Hood. I didn't know Robin Hood had a southern Cali accent.

You didn't like Field of Dreams?! I didn't think such a person existed! And I thought he played the role of Lieutenant John J. Dubar well and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Open range was good too!
