Cingular.......End of story!
the service can definately suck at times. their support people have no clue what they are doing 90% of the time, but luckily i haven't had many problems besides talking to incompetent people.
Uhhh... actually, it's the United States cell setup as a whole. It's the nature of the network specific to a cell area. Here's another tidbit of info specific to the USA: The FCC requires that the Analog networks be maintained until February 16, 2008.
All I know is US Cellular was about 100x's better! I never once had a dropped call with them....With Cingular its every other call!
I had AT&T, and they were okay, and then they were absorbed or whatever by Cingular early in the year. So now my phone says Cingular on it, my bill comes from Cingular and when I go to pay online I get re-directed to the Cingular site. Forgive me for thinking I'm a Cingular customer. So when I called them to complain about dropped calls, weak signals and missed messages they tell me I should think about upgrading to Cingular (for a fee, natch) and that I'm still an AT&T customer until April, per my contract. I pressed her a little to the point where she admitted that even the employees don't really understand the relationship/situation regarding Cingular and AT&T. I asked her, does AT&T even still exist?! Meanwhile, they published a report in Chicago that US Cellular had the highest satisfaction rate here. I'm definitely looking around this time.
Cingular/AT&T works well in this area. Alltel is good also. NEXTEL is the bottom of the sludge bucket when it comes to quality & customer service. I would do without a mobile phone rather then spend a penny with Nextel.
I also have AT&T/Cingular and never get a signal and when I do get a signal after a few minutes I lose the call. Phone is a new flip phone from Samsung.
I used to love Cingular...but lately it hasn't been as great. Will be switching to T-mobile when plan is up. Oh and something that might help your service is to upgrade your simcard to the 64K one. It is free and if you still have the 32K card, I highly suggest you upgrade. Again, a Cingular store will do it for you for free.
Quite happy with Cingular here. Went through the incompitency mill with AT&T and Sprint (who took it upon themselves to call me Christmas day last year to tell me I owed them on the order of about $1,600.00 which took the State of Florida Department of Professional Regulations to help fix). AT&T and Sprint seemed to have billing issues in that they dont send a bill where as Cingular's bills have been right on time and no surprises. BHW
depends where your live cingular/sprint get service every where out here in the bay area califronia but verizon and Tmobile NEVER have service
Gabe is right, I could make a Cell Phone call from a remote beach in Northern Brasil, but have dropped calls in Suburbia (Laguna Niguel).
I switched from ATT/Cingular to Verizon. I find reception much broader. My friends tell me Nextel is the absolute worst for phone, but the radio works great.
Here at the Jersey Shore, Cingular/ATT is horrible. Some of my friends still have it and are waiting for their contracts to expire. I have Verizon Wireless and I have no complaints aside from price.
I have T-mobile and it works awesome for me.......... Sprint and Nextel in the Orlando Florida area sucks wang......
That is interesting....I live in/around Chicago and never once had a dropped call....At times it might get alittle rough, but never went click. I was wanting to climb a cellphone tower with my Cingular phone and take a picture of the signal.....
When my dad first got a cell back in the 80's (pre-Zach Morris phone) he had Houston Cellular which became Cingular. He hated it and switch to GTE, which is now Verizon. Never have had a problem. And they work with us very well on everything.
AT&T GSM was crap at first and then got good. The day the Cingular merger went into effect, the entire service experence became worse than ever!
In some of the buildings I go in My cingular GSM phone is the only one that will work out of all my friends so I am happy b/c of that and I have great service with it, no dropped calls or anything. I had that constantly with sprint. I was on AT&T GSM (now cingular blue IIRC) and now am on Cingular GSM (cingular orange, i think) and I can't say that my service really got any better or worse but as I posted in the other thread all of a sudden I am having all kinds of billing issues. With AT&T, even when they started putting cingular on the bill, everything was consistent, and there were not billing errors. Now I never know what to expect when I open the envelope every month.
Funny that all the sentiments on here seem to confirm what most polls state.... Sprint is notorious for lack of customer service and some signal problems. They are the only company that doesn't allow for roaming either (Nextel doesn't count because their system isn't compatible with anyone else's, thus its impossible to roam) Cingular has pretty bad customer service for the most part but has a larger network Nextel has terrible cell service (although the walkie-talkies work relatively well) Verizon has relatively good customer service although the highest billing rates and some billing issues T-mobile usually has the best rates and good customer service as well, although the coverage is weaker then Verizon and Cingular (although T-mobile has signed a TON of roaming agreements within the last 8 months) Alltel is a dying company with billing issues and mediocre customer service, but fairly good rural coverage.
