Someone had recommended Ashton cigars and I picked one up yesterday to go with the usual R&J Churchills that I enjoy smoking on long drive across Texas. I think the band is still in the car someplace so I can dig up the exact name later but it was awful, got 1/3 of the way through it before giving it up as a lost cause. Tasted like somebody collected a bunch of leaves from an old oak tree. Am I missing something?

While I'm *****ing..... A couple weeks ago I had a nice ash going and the damn thing blew back and got stuck in my ear. Nearly ran off the damn road.

You got a nice ash stuck in your ear? Does your fiance know? :D

I bought what was reported to be Partagas #5 in Jamaica last summer, possibly the worst cigar I've ever smoked. I'd normally be suspicious before I bought, but the shop was at the resort where I was staying, and it was a pretty pricey place. I nearly took the half smoked butt back to the guy.

The name Ashton comes from the description of the cigar taste. "Hey, I have this new cigar, tell me what you think." "hmmm, tastes like I'm smoking an ashtray". "Aha! I'll call it an Ashton."

    Yeah, stay away from them.

I was honored to receive a cigar from Bill, but that thing was nasty.

Anything from Rocky Patel is bad, IMO.

I'm generally very careful about what I buy and smoke, but after smoking Partagas 8-9-8 varnished I always get the flu without fail, no idea why.

A petite, yet genuine, Cuban from a Merchant Marine I met in an Irish Bar in North Charleston, SC. The taste was un-memorable, but the draw was absolutely horrible. It was like trying to breathe through concrete. Some of the 'no-name' brand cigars from North Carolina's JR Cigars or from Thompson Cigars are ALL horrible. Uneven burns, terrible flavor, crappy construction, always dried-out, etc.

A year or so I had an Acid Wafe from Drew Estate. It tasted like **** and I put it out after 30 seconds. Jonathan Drew is really out there with his cigar creations, and it'***** or miss. Unfortunately for me, it's been mostly miss.

While attending Cavallino last year I walked into a cigar shop in Delray beach. Was given the talk about Carolina Cigars and how they were one of the oldest cigar makers in the US and how they were hand crafted blah, blah, blah... so I bought some. Now I did try one before I gave away my hard earned dough and it was pretty good. However, what I smoked and what I was sold must have been two completely different things. Smoking the ones I got were like trying to smoke a stick.... only with less flavor...

I would have to say the camachos- they taste like sucking on the exhaust pipe of my testarossa. They are strong! Then comes the Hula Girl cigars the flavored ones from Hawaii.

Worst cigar ever: The Graycliffs that I bought in the Nashville Airport Terminal. No wonder they were having a two-for-one sale.

The worst has to be "No. 59 Factory Throwouts". These were actually recommended to me by a guy who swears by them (or at them?!). Imagine the aroma & pleasure of smoking an entire carton of GPC cigarettes, and you will come close to the horror of these beasts. I made the mistake of smoking one in my living room, and the place smelled like a cheap casino for two months. They're also hard to cut due to the head actually being a layer of paper underneath the leaf wrapper. WOW...

    No.

There are far more **** cigars than good ones.

Nice! I almost drove my Boxster into a ditch years ago in a similar event. Doing 80 on the highway, ash flies up off the end and somehow finds its way into my eye. How it got past my sunglasses I'll never know. I immediately teared up and winced. I was able to swerve over and come to a stop on the shoulder and proceed to soak my eye(and mostly my clothes) with a bottle of water. Excruciating...the pain and the embarrassment.

Best and worst all in one...a Don Pepe that a former boss gave me. Tasted awesome and had some kind of wicked kick. Halfway home, I was driving faster than the car was. Felt like I got a bowling ball dropped on my head by the time I got home.

Tried a few Don Pepe's since, and they tasted like cardboard that had been soaked in gutter water, dried, rolled and offered for sale.

I've yet to torch up a Montecristo that does not disappoint.

Perhaps I'm spoiled by what's available in Canada, but those Rocky Patels are nasty. After smoking some other craptastic available-in-USA cigars, I just bring my own when I travel.

I enjoy genuine Cohibas and cigars rolled with Cuban tobacco by a great local shop. I believe I forgot to remove these from my luggage before my trip to California two weeks ago, but couldn't find the time to enjoy them while I was there.

Bringing this thread back because I have been ordering cigars on the daily deal sites like crazy! Don't worry I keep spending with the local shops too.

I bought a 50 pack of Romeo y Julieta Reserva Reals as good daily small cigar and they fine, but nothing special. Good thing I got them so cheap :)

Now what is up with this Patel guy? These cigars are in all combos and I refuse to buy them because they seem very run of the mill.

Lets keep this thread going and I will add my bit.

Don't buy BOLIVA cigars unless you want a cigar that can literally burn through horizontally on one side while being impossible to light on the other side.

When someone beamingly hands you a fugazi Cuban and you are obliged to puff on it for a few minutes so not to offend or embarrass him....

Agreed. Lets going into business. Think of the marketing potential and wacky flavors you could offer like Ben & Jerry's does w/ icecream.
