Is it worthwhile to get a TCU or whatever it is called from a later model 360? I am getting the trans refurbished on my 360 I just acquired. Dustin from Revolution Motor Sports in Agoura has suggested this would cut down on the future wear and tear on the transmission.

Thoughts? Where is best place to purchase?

    Thanks

The CS TCU (available new from Ricambi or a re-flashed used one from Eric355 - which I have) will improve the shifting and allow the tech to set the PIS for better clutch wear.

Won't have any effect on the longevity of the transmission. It will improve clutch life.

Just installed a CS TCU on my 99 360. It has changed the car so much I wish I had done it earlier. As stated Eric 355 can sell you one that he has reflashed or I bought mine from Eurospares in the UK for 1100 pounds. It is well worth the exercise and the cost as the change in driving your car will be phenomenal. Regards Gary.

What are the procedures and cost for each of these two options?

I had mine changed-big difference in shifting time. You will notice it the very first time you drive the car. If you could only have one mod on a 1999, this should be it. This isn't in a class with; I think it handles better or I think it has more horsepower. I don't think anyone would disagree that the car shifts faster, much faster.

I was just having this discussion with two other 360 owners yesterday at Cars and Coffee in Malibu. I have a 2003 which is already improved over pre-2002 vehicles but my understanding is that the CS TCU takes that even further.

Buy from either Eric355 or Ricambi, take to your Ferrari mechanic who will remove certain information from the old unit, exchange units, transfer information to new unit, set PIS, verify gear changes and you are done. Ricambi $2995, Eric355 around $1600 IIRC. If your TCU is a later one you can send it to Eric and he will re-flash it for a fee.
Here's a cheat sheet for the mechanic if he doesn't know how to do it.
    Alan

TCU swap sequence is as follows:
    1. Plug in an SD2, and on the parameter page, read the "new closed clutch position" and note it down.
    2. switch off the battery (obvious, i know, but you'll be surprised the amount of times i've seen e.c.u's destroyed if this isn't done!)
    3. Swap it out for the new t.c.u
    4. switch on the battery, switch on the ignition and leave for thirty seconds.
    5. plug in the SD2. On the diagnosis page, write the original closed clutch position figure into it.
    6. Set P.I.S. to around 4.7 to begin with.( this can be played with later to suit)
    7. Now on the diagnosis section of SD2, a FULL cycle test has to be carried out.
    8. Next, under diagnosis section, carry out a self-learn. At this stage, you will probably still see a blank screen.
    9. Switch off the Sd2 and then the ignition. Leave it for thirty seconds, then switch the ignition back on and manually run up and down the gears.
By this time you should see your display working and gears should all be selecting as they should. If it's all o.k they just need to fiddle about getting the P.I.S setting right until the change is quick.

YES! It is worth it. I've had mine in about 3 hours and it's like a new car. I got mine from Eric and would highly recommend.

i had my 2002 done by Roberto at Roselli's in San Jose. It is well worth the money. It makes driving so much more pleasurable, its like a completely different car. I would highly recommend it.

CS TCU now for 2 years. Best mod for F1 360. Highly recommended.
