Just visited autotrader, and yes, the car was still listed with dc motors. Don't know why. The actual color was truly darker than the pictures. The car is currently being detailed at FoNB, and I will pick it up today. I hope the detailers do not "make" the color brighter. If it is the case, I may have to wash the car once a year.

I think Rubino Micalizzato is darker than either the Rosso Fiorano or Rosso Monza. I think there is a slightly darker red available for the Maserati that one of our f-chat 612 owners had custom ordered: bordeaux ponteveccio with a cuoio interior. I think he's planning on selling it and getting a OTO.

Yes, I saw the car pics. I'd love to have that color or Rubino Micalizzato. Well, it is ok then, just an extra car for fun though.

I've picked up the car this morning. I was wrong on the color. The correct color is Rubino Micalizzato, not Rosso Fiorano. A bonus, the car has Tubi installed. Lucky for me, its not very loud.

Thank you. So embarrased at the red light; fortunately, I just had the windows tinted at the dealer. Could not go forward, instead put the T on reverse, then a complete full stop when the light turned green on Pacific Coast Highway. Went straight home in Auto mode. The car was really jerking forward when the gear changes automatically. It is just a big change from the 456's smooth automatic (and the AM's Manual). Will take the car out later today to play with the F1.

Sounds great and I'm glad you're pleased with the color and the tone of the exhaust. And I'm impressed with your honesty about glitches in learning the F-1; I wonder how many of us would have come clean with that admission!

Auto mode in the pre-superfast 612s isn't very useful, IMO. It's much better on the later cars, although even there it takes a bit of getting used to.

The problem is that at light throttle, you need to lift just as you shift (which is not true when you are accelerating hard). Of course, in auto mode, you don't know when, exactly, it's going to shift (although lifting often triggers an upshift), and hence can't lift to make it smooth.

It is difficult for me, whereas you drive an F-1 mode, and still want the lightness of the automatic gear. What makes me most uncomfortable is when you start (auto mode) to move forward as the red light turns green, the car suddendly gears up and "roars" (due to the Tubi) to 2, 3, 4, and only when it kicks into 5, 6, then the car is stablizing. And yes, you have no idea when it is going to shift while you are in auto mode. By the way, was there any improvement mechanically of the 2006 compared to 2005?

I went to visit Ferrari of Long Island two days ago when I was having my RS4 serviced at Biener Audi. The showroom at F of LI has several 612s in it. Two are MY 2006, low mileage... they want $160k to $170k and aren't really willing to deal. They have a brand new MY 2009 one to one that somebody backed out of, they were willing to take a little bit off the MSRP, but even with that it is still in the stratospheric pricing range.

The manager on duty at the time insisted that $160k-$170k is the market price for a 2006 612 at this current time. Based on the other threads in this forum and ebay searches and whatnot, I would say that his number is a bit high. Are all dealers like this? Perhaps they are one of the few that isn't hurting right now?

I don't know of any changes between 2005 and 2006.

Eventually, if you drive in auto mode much, you'll learn to anticipate where it shifts. I often use auto mode when I'm in traffic, or in a very low speed situation such as a city center. Otherwise, I use the manual mode.

One thing to be very careful of in auto mode is the kick-down. If you floor it in auto mode, look out! I only made that mistake once.

However, mine is a 2008 and I believe that it's auto mode is much smoother than the 2005 car that I test drove. I don't think I'd use the 2005 car in auto at all. And really, there is no reason to.

The think I hate about the F1 is when I pull both paddles in to coast to a stop, and then forget to put it in gear while I'm stopped. Then I step on the gas, the engine roars, and the car goes nowhere... and I feel like... no... I am an idiot.

I have the HGTC model in a 2006 612 It seems a lot better in sport mode when using auto. I also love pulling in the paddles and glide in neutral to the stop. Yes I have many times rev'd the sport exhaust only to look foolish. I am in need of window tints and a neutral light. Anyway I asked the dealer their thoughts, they told me the brake acts like the clutch and pulling the levers together does not save the clutch. I dont know if the HGTC pkg helps the shifting IMO its a lot like a box of chocolates.

Funny you should say it has Tubi without knowing. I bought my champagne 612 and they said it had Tubi. When it came in I ran it over to the dealer and turned out it had the HGTC package with the sport exhaust.

I need to ask them again whether my 2006 has the HGTC package.

The Ferrari dealer or service center can run the VIN and print out all the original factory options. Apparently the previous owner in Beverly Hills spared no expense. The car had a built in radar system that runs thru the rear view mirror and looks stock until it reads the laser settings. Also has a awesome head upgrade and re-done boot area to hide the sub. It is impressive and sounds great. I found the installer and he shipped me the invoice that was CRAZY dollars. Either way the 612 is a beast!

I seriously doubt you are able to buy a nice 06 at $140k from a dealer even these days...
Or an 05 for $110k for that matter.

Bumping the thread. Dealers still seem to be asking ~170k for an '06. Anyone have a different experience?

I have seen them all over the place - depends on mileage and options - my 06 heavy options with the HGTC pkg 5k miles
    180k 4 months ago...debating on a 599 trade.

Just sold my mid-06 612, 10,300 miles, TdF over Cuoio, first registered owner after 4k miles as a Ferrari executive car. Daytonas, 19 inch wheels, nav, other custom touches, freshly performed 15k service (as of this week). No extended warranty.

Buyer paid $149k, which I (obviously) considered a fair price.

The good news is that I now have a 599! Obviously tastes vary, but it's a grail car for me.

    Hope that helps.

    Best,

    Gary

Key word is 'asking' and in many cases has little correlation to the actual selling price.

Bumping thread as well. I'm looking at an '06 612 with about 7500 miles. Nero Daytona/Burgundy(don't know the real name of the interior).
Dealer asking around 175. seems high based knocking around the 612 threads this am. I'm new to 612 as I'm a 430 owner.
Wife loves the car, would trade a '07 Continental GT for it.

Obviously, info. is light here as i don't know all the options yet. based on what i'm reading, $150 is closer to the right price? or am i still too high?

I doubt you'll get the keys for less.
