I'm sure it wouldn't be easy, but would it even be possible? The original V12 of the Miura P400 is apparently is horrible and bound to fall apart, so I'd only own one if I could fit a far more reliable exotic motor in there.

    Why?

    I mean seriously a sonorous 12 for a (comparatively) mundane 8.

Now that would be an engineering challenge. Lambo motor is east/west layout while the Maserati is north/south.

I think it would be cheaper to fully rebuild the Lambo motor, making a new crank, rods, pistons, valves, camshafts, etc. ... infact replace everything but the castings, thus no longer an old tired motor!

Build the engine to Miura SV specs. That would be the least expensive and more practical route.

The Maserati is too wide a "Vee" angle for a start. Plus, how would you get it on the gearbox???

A Miura is sublime, why would you even want to.......

The only real problem with the Miura engine is the fact that early models use the same sump for the engine and transmission. That was changed in late SV models, but not all. There are kits out there to seperate the sumps which is what I would do if I owned one.

The Muira is known for having one of the most complex castings of any car engine due to the fact that it also comprises the trans. While nothing short of restoring virginity is impossible it would be VERY expensive.

Expensive, not really in comparison to exotics overall. All the kit has is a plate that you weld in the engine to separate the transmission from the engine and a separate tank and pump for the transmission and you're done. The engine keeps the same pump and tank for it's lubercation and the transmission then has it's own. I would guess the whole deal would be $10k to $15k and with a Miura, that's cheap!

Very easy to do. Drive on highway at around 60mph. Shift into reverse. It will go in easily as R is fully syncro. Muria engine will come out. Tow back to shop and drop in Maser Engine.

The Lambo engines are strong and can rev like hell. The problem with a engine miura apart from the previously mentioned tranny in the sump is ignition and carbs. Old ignitions can be upgraded with electronic if need be. The carbs if unused tend to overfill spewing fresh fuel onto a hot engine, can you say fire.

Miuras need to be driven, and maintaned. When used properly they are acualy mechanicaly robust and reliable. The bodies and chassis are however relatively weak, the car is not to comfortable is not that stable at speed and is loud. Replacing the engine might make the car a bit more reliable, but would diminish the experience.

As I understand it..the Mirua engine suffered from really bad engine vibrations at about 3500rpm. This aparently caused alot of damage if the owner stayed with in that RPM range for extendid periods of time. The gear box also siffered form this as well. This was fixed with the SV models..from what I understand. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to find an SV motor and drop her in ( HA good luck finding one of those just lying around!!).

Surely somebody with experience of the SV motor could make the appropriate changes to the earlier motor ... just add $$$$$$$$$

I restored a Miura and rebuilt it's engine and box. it was just a S and not an SV, but it was no huge problem. had some wierd things like the engine runs backwards with the chain tensioner being on the drive side of the chain, but it all works well and I'd love to own one.

They're no more complicated than a BB, and they're prone to many little problems but when right they're great. Not unstable or any real vices. Bloody lovelly things I reckon.

Miura’s are Fabulous Cars! My father had a yellow SV many years ago, wish he kept that car. It was his daily driver for over 2 years. He would delivery customer parts in the Lambo. Had more than 1 purchasing agent call to ask if we were charging too much! The Miura was rock solid, only major repair was a clutch replacement we did ourselves in the driveway. Let me take the SV to hockey practice 1 Sunday AM, got my 1st speeding ticket on 128 in the 55mph era. Sold it to buy a 246 Dino, another car I wish he kept!

Why the heck would you want to do that? The Miura is an automotive icon. Do not bastardize it! Sell it and buy a Honda if you want reliability.

Don't vandalise a classic. Just buy something else you have more confidence in. It'd be cheaper for a start. Would you try to make Kylie Minogue taller by surgery, or just find a taller girl in the first place?

Bad analogy ;) ... Kylie has had more surgery than most (I believe), or though it is a pretty even race with her sister.

If you want to destroy a work of art, give it to me instead. Don't deface a Miura with a Masercrap engine POS.
