A letter of recommendation? I’m trying to get into UT(University of Texas), so I need some people to put in a good word for me. My older brother was an army Captain who served in Iraq, he works for a big airplane company now, itd be awesome to have him put in a good word for me, but, he is my brother, so I don’t know if that would be odd or not? I don’t think it could hurt, but I also don’t think it can help that much, I might be wrong though.

Probably not the best choice IMHO.

It wouldn't be a good idea at UT.

Not a good idea. Anybody you and your brother know in common? Network.

BTW, as long as you're heading to college, how about a heads-up for English Composition 101? e.g., Instead of saying, "Would it be weird to have my brother write me...", try "Would it be weird to have my brother write a letter for me..." Comprende, Amigo? :)

What are you applying for? The best recommenders are supervisors/clients if you have work experience, professors if you just graduated or anyone with who has seen you in action. Relatives don't count since they are biased.

It would carry absolutely no weight, and would make you look rather silly!
