Just stumbled upon this board now.

Have been a ferrari fan boy for quite some time. Just recently got rid of an '04 Gallardo and would love to get myself into this Marque :).

I have a few toys in the stable now, but just recently purchased this '06 E60 M5, fully loaded with only 3500 miles on the clock. Great car and goes well with some of the other BMWs (Turbo E46 M3, 335i).

Anyway, I hope to get as much information as possible and soon enough make my "once in a lifetime" purchase :)

    Welcome aboard!
What do you like/dislike about the transmission (SMG)?

You can also post on the 360/430 section under "model specific."

You get encouraged around here to use the "search" function for specific technical questions such as "F1 gearbox" or the infamous "timing belt change times" before asking alot of questions that have already been answered before.

Other than that most are extremely friendly and helpful.

Also, when you find a car you like -post info on it here as someone may know specifics on its particular "hidden history" before you buy it!

Welcome to fchat. You might also want to search and post in the Southern California section. There are a lot of great owners in the San Diego area. You can find out where they meet and get to talk with a lot of owners about the various models. Good luck on your search.

I am with Jon, great opportunity to get to know the marque is to go to a meet and visiti with various owners.
My .02 is that once you get the bug, there will not be a "once in a lifetime" choice as the various cars are just too different and need to be sampled. 6's, 12's old, new--gotta try more than one!

    Welcome CREturbo.

I am in La Jolla quite frequently. We'll have to get together some time there.

Take your time looking but definitely go see my friend, Jim Lyons, at the Sports Car Company. He's right across the street from Symbollic. Speak with him first.

You'll have fun on this board. It's an incredible resource. You can search for many answers as the topic you brought up is asked regularly.

    Keep us up to date.

Thank you for all the warmness and kindness :D

    I've been looking at '03 360s.

I'm budgeting myself around the 150k mark or so for my first F-Car. UNLESS, I get rid of my E46 M3(turbo) and then put myself up around the $200k mark. Should I hold off a few months and see if the F430 prices drop to that Point? I've seen a couple F430 Coupes going for around the $220k mark which I wouldn't mind going with since it's the 360's replacement.

I know both are wonderful cars, and offer more then I'll ever need, but I'd rather not be kicking my own ass if I get the F430 bug after the 360 purchase.

Keep the M3 and get a 360 Spider. The F430 and 360 are both fantastic cars, but what would "bug" you the most is driving around La Jolla's perfect weather in a coupe!! :) Good luck.

    Chase,

I'd still have the 335i and the new E60 M5 for driving in that 2% chance weather :).

    I can't stand rag tops.

There's been talk about a Dinan kit that pushes the e60 M5 up above the 620bhp point.

I havn't had this much fun since I was in my early twenties.

I must say. Yesterday morning I was picked up by a friend in his 2003 575M.

    Wonderful car..

I now have options. Sadly enough though, the new 599 and 612 just don't cut it for me.

I've had my 360F1 Coupe for about a year now and have loved every minute of ownership, but recently I made a mistake... I test drove a 430. The 430 is more car than the 360... acceleration, shifting etc. My advice is if you can afford a 430, get one. As soon as I can justify the extra money required to upgrade, I'll start my search.

You will, though, need to spend over $200K to get a nicely outfitted, drama-free coupe and well more than that for a spider.

    Good luck.
    Frank

Welcome, I'm in San Diego as well -- quite a few of us here.

BMWs are great but once you get a Ferrari ... well, you've got a great experience in front of you.

If you're looking locally, there's Jim Lyons, as posted above, and also Gary Bobileff. I get the sense Jim handles mostly newer cars, while Gary has the shop and seems to do more classics like Daytonas, Dinos, Boxers, Miuras, F40s, 3x8s, etc, including some mind-blowing restorations. For a 360, I'm sure you've been over to FoSD - they get lots of 360s in.

    Anyway, good luck!
