Would somebody please answer the phone?!?!

Twice during the race replay I got up from my couch to answer that FRIGGIN' phone.

I thought it was a cell phone in the kitchen.

At least that tells me the surround system works on my TV.

That's not a phone. It's loud audible signal to people in the pitlane that a car is entering the pits.

I fell asleep during qualifying so maybe we aren't talking about the same thing. During the race and qualifying there is a loud ringing noise (sounds like a cell phone only 20 times louder) that warns people a car is pitting.

if you heard it only when the commentators were talking maybe we aren't talking about the same thing.

 

Holy crap, I thought it was our french commentators!!!! Well ... there was a phone ringing somewhere in Australia ... damn thing was incredibly annoying, and everyone heard it!

I've always heard pit-lane warning sounds at the tracks I've been to, but never one that sounded like any kind of telephone! Usually they sound like a horn of some sort.

I also was yelling "Somebody, get the phone!" all through the race.

 

Whatever it was, it was on the RTL (German) broadcast as well, so it was on Bernie's feed. Sounded like a phone to me: I almost went looking for it too!

wow...never heard of it before. right from quali, i thought it was someone's phone...

 

yeah i hadnt heard that ringing sound before either. Its probably because at other tracks the warning sound is sort of like an air horn.

 

It was the pitlane warning signal, just as Flatoutraicing said. God knows why the Australians choosed that bell sound instead of a siren, it was at the very least anoying.

Fortunately, with the time difference, when I heard "my" phone ringing, it was late enough at night that I ignored it. Then the commentators mentioned that it was the pit lane warning.

Thank ${DIETY} that WRC doesn't use that warning. Picture it: a rallye car comes bashing through the stage, and all the spectators are looking down at their cell phones.

 

Nothing wrong with little fun for April's fool. I guess half of the world checked their phones.

 

I fell for it too in qualifying session. Thought that it was Peter Windsor calling Varsha from the pitlane. I have heard pitlane warning sirens before but never such a silly phone ring. Never thought it would be that. Glad to hear that Speed TV was innocent. Now about that Barrett Jackson auction during qualifying...
