Should FerrariChat form a complete Ferrari model archive?

  1. Sounds great!

  2. Don't think so...

So that's the question. I'm not an administrator or mod, so I have no power in making a separate section, but here's the idea:

An independent section where every thread is dedicated to one car. An intro post would have historical information, build dates, race history, designers etc., and the rest of the thread would be dedicated to posting pictures of that particular model. This would be chronological, so you'd be able to scroll down the section model by model for reference.

Furthering the idea a bit; I figured it would be good to make it by subscription only - included with a Silver subscription - simply so people don't "use" FerrariChat to get a few numbers and leave. If we could do some sort of cataloging of every model, it would give FerrariChat an even better reputation in the online enthusiast community.

I think we have the brains here to put something like this together. With new information coming in all the time, the construction would be ongoing.
So you'd have: Silver subscription, business, politics, podcasts and then archive with an interior section for sharing new information away from the actual archive itself.

It's broad strokes, fellas, but I think it's an interesting idea... Who's in?

Look into: F-Chat Owner's Forum "Garage" threads

Probably a tough sell elsewhere... due to privacy issues and all that.

    Yeah, I'm familiar.
I'm not talking about giving any personal information away, just a detailed catalog of every different model Ferrari as built complete with history, build number, etc.

Oh, don't get me wrong!! I've long wanted to see who my car's "sisters" might be....
But so many "registries" have come and gone.

If it could somehow be done without compromising privacy, while actually getting
folks to PARTICIPATE, I'm all for it.

But for now, the OF seems to be the only place it's actually happening here.

If you're talking about listing serial numbers and locations etc, like the Enzo Registry, that's not quite where I'm going with this because I worry too about the privacy issue. I also think that would be a little too much for a simple section to handle...

My idea stemmed from trolling Zagato's website looking at all of their past work, and finding there were a few cars in the 40's I wasn't aware of, one of them being a 48' Ferrari, the Panoramica. Something that far back is - historically speaking to enthusiasts - a big deal. So, I thought it would be a great idea to just have each particular model in it's own thread, much like a time line from the Auto Avio Construzioni 815, to present.

    .

...and I don't think the model history of Ferrari should be so obscure and difficult to research that it takes the ownership of a Ferrari in order to have a proper place to reference a company's production history.

I just don't see you getting enough participation.

We already have general forums for close cars

www.barchetta.cc already has something like this. You can search by year or by s/n (odd, even, Dino etc).

Yes Peter, Barchetta has been a go-to for me for years now. It's a wonderful site! My only problems are that the updates on resale price are incredibly out-dated and only up to the F40, I think.

I thought about having something a little closer to home - something all FChat users could use as a resource here on the site. Something a little more personal than having to use somebody else's word against our experts...

So I can create a subforum for this with Silver perms. I can create a first go of threads for each model. Pap and I will have mod access for this forum to add new models we've forgotten and as users add info in posts we'll use post #1 of each thread (model) to consolidate info.

Before we get started we need a rough template for post #1, which fields and basic info required, like...

    Model:

    Years:

    Variations:

    Count:

    Cylinders:

    Displacement:

    HP/Torque:

    Current Value Range:

    etc...

help me come up with complete field list and proper naming. thanks.

@Rob - by count do you mean Number Produced??

I have a poster that lists virtually every road model and contains almost all of this information. I would be glad to enter that information here somewhere or put it into a format and send it to you or someone else if needed.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Cavallino has one of the most complete lists. there are a few inaccuracies, but I think they are better than anyone else.

    Thanks, Patrick!

Rob, I like the template. I want to implement race history into this as well for the hisotrical significance.

Well, certainly count me in... I'm only saying it's been tried a LOT of times
before and fizzles out fairly soon. More power to you if you can "make it stick"
    this time.

    +1

There's nothing wrong with having something as a total reference point. This could be an incentive to subscribe, as well! Thanks, Jedi! I have a feeling the brains here will build an archive far better than competing sources.

Needing little to no time in editing details is a plus as well. There's no reason this should ever not be up to date.

Rob, when should we expect lift-off? I need to know when to plan for a couple hours of digging! :)

Is also a fairly good source although I'm sure they may be missing some of the more obscure models and details as well.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks here who can help out with this as well.

It'll be interesting to see this come together!!

Not being cynical... but I'll be REALLY surprised and impressed if it works.... I've
been trying to find a MEANINGFUL 328 registry for several years, and all the ones that
were started with all the good intentions have long-since fizzled. It seems to me
the 3x8 cars are the ones most hard-hit - you can always find references to one-offs
like 4063 and others... but not the "masses" like 61515 (mine). I'd truly love to see
the adjacent models filled in - to see who my "sisters" are.... but I really don't hold
a lot of hope. Exotic S/Ns... sure! 3x8 and Mondials? I'm skeptical...

But that's just me... who knows - maybe THIS TIME it will work.
