...a racing/driving game that was more about driving than racing? Here's a dream I had recently.

Either Nationwide, or WorldWide poll for the absolute BEST driving roads out there. I'm talking twisty, scenic roads from anywhere. Be it a coastal California highway, a long flat desert straight from Nevada, a mountainous "S" road from North Carolina. Take these roads, make sure you have a nice R&D fund saved up, and get them as close as possible to accurate. Race them, drive them, maybe even edit them?

It seemed like a nifty idea to me. Anyone else?

Absolutely. When I played GP Legends all the time, I found myself driving around alone quite often, usually on the longer tracks like Spa or Nurburgring. It was still plenty of fun.

    Definitely.

One of the things that fascinates me about Project Gotham Racing 2 is the authenticity of the cities portrayed. Sometimes I just drive around looking around without caring at all where the competition is.

As I walked through Central Park yesterday I caught myself thinking about how I took that entry to the park last time in the F50...And that was only PGR 1, which wasn't half as detailed as the new version.

So yes, an accurate driving simulator is just as much fun as a race simulator. Think about the success of Flight, Space and Train simulators. Not everything has to be about racing and scoring points. Just sampling the experience is sometimes joyful enough.

That would be sweet!! It'd be cool to drive cross country or somthing like that.
If it were just a city that you lived in it'd be a good way to learn directions to places.

There are (or were) custom maps for NEED for SPEED series for the PC. Some had great screen shots of real locations that looked better than the actual game. I tried down loading some but I never could get them to work properly. They are out there if you know where to look.
