A used civic is an awesome daily driver. Sell the Cayman, don't think twice.

I would go for it and if it's not your thing after a while then go for a Cayman R.

You seem to really want to own one of these cars, just make sure it is a gearshift car, and spend some real time (more than once so you can get over the wow is is a Ferrari crap) and more than once behind the wheel. It had been about 5 years (I drove one a couple weeks ago) since I had driven a 360 (I owned two) and I have to admit after I got out I said hmmm not the thrill I remember getting. Hey that just me, it might make you scream for joy.

I would sell the Cayman so fast it would break every land speed record on its way to be traded! Buy the 360 F1. I did and she is drop dead Gorgeous and the F1 is the only way to go!

Except for the 3-pedal car which is less problematic and just as much fun in a different way. :)

Good advice. Get past the badge and then decide.

    I wouldn't get a 360 with F1 -- it's obsolete. If you like the 360, I would seek out a manual gearbox.

I think we need a special sub forum for each different model, these F1 and three pedal cars are a very different crowd and driving experience.

True but a 3 pedal sub forum would be lonely. I don't want to be lonely.

Just for fun- Cayman S vs 360... at Nürburgring.

    8:04 Porsche Cayman S
    8:09 Ferrari 360 Modena

I would of guessed the 360 was faster, but Porsche has always been good at using less HP to do more (Cayman S 330hp vs. 360 396hp)

Trade your Cayman for a Gen II Cayman S if you don't want the extra public attention, worries about unexpected high repair bills on a used Ferrari, fly under the radar at work with boss and co-workers... or want to win on the track :) (4 year warranty from Porsche is also nice.)

Buy the Ferrari if you are in love with the dream of Ferrari ownership, want passion/emotions, more attention, a better sounding engine note.

What is your budget? $60k gets you a used gen II Cayman S with all the options (and 3 years left on the factory warranty) or $100k for a used Ferrari 360. . I agree, go with Ferrari if you can afford it... its the emotional choice. But if on a budget, the Gen II Cayman S is a better car from an engineering point of view.

That makes the Cayman R even more desirable than ever.

I could be smitten with one but I used the configurator and after adding options I want, it comes up to 90K!!!

Wow! How does it get 90K...PCCB brakes, Sport Chrono, full leather???

I'd bet you'd be just as happy with the car at 70K as you would as 90K.

Cayman and 360 don't really have the same purpose, in my opinion. Really depends on your budget and other priorities.

Why is that? Other than the F430 is worth a lot more money I see both as with exactly the same purpose. Some folks don't daily drive their Ferraris for their own reasons, there are Cayman owners that only use theirs for pleasure drives too. But both models can be daily driven and for those who wish to do track events the cars are great for that too.

I think the cars are too far apart in price and especially maintenance costs to be considered similar. Also, the 360 is far more flashy than a Cayman. Depending on where you live and work, that can be a major consideration.

If the OP has unlimited funds and doesn't care what anyone else thinks, then treat the cars however you like.

I own both and the Cayman is a better all around car. I've used it for 2000 mile road trips, runs to Walmart and track days. It's great at all three. A big part of the advantage is that it will swallow an amazing amount of cargo for a sports car. Mine has the PASM option and in normal mode is a comfortable riding car that still handles terrific but won't cause fatigue. Switch it to sport and the personality changes. The 430 isn't bad for a long day of driving either but it won't hold all that much and I would not want to take it for a week long, 2000 mile trip though a weekend rally is great. Forget Walmart. The 430 is certainly more fun on track days or a very spirited drive up a twisty mountain road but not by that much.

CC brakes, stereo, metalic paint, different wheels, sport exhaust, a/c and you are just about there.

Thanks for your thoughts. The Boxster S is also a much more practical car than the 360. Much more storage and more comfortable for long trips. We took the old Boxster S to Pebble Beach and loved it. And the car is great on the track.

So I wonder why I keep the 360 until I drive it and then I understand. The 360 is a definite cut above the Boxster and rides better as well. Then after a few hours my tired old rear end needs a break from the Daytona seats. 2 hours in the 360 at a time with a rest stop is about right.

And yes, I am enjoying the Sports Exhaust on the Boxster but still does not compare to the 360 w Tubi.
