I'm toying with the idea, I'd love to keep the 355 and get the Daytona, would make a nice duo....but I'm getting a bit disenchanted with the idea of new Ferraris, I'm on the waiting list for the Maranello replacement but when I think about how much I'll lose in depreciation I look longingly at the sexy Daytona....thoughts, comments??

Have a nice day whereever you are.

    The daytona, without a doubt.

Aware that people who don't know the history and value of Ferrari's will say: "My god, what have you done ???"

NO QUESTION the Daytona and the 355 is the way to go. The Daytona is on the appreciation and the New Maranello is sure to deprecate. The Daytona will always be a very important piece of Ferrari History, While the Maranello will be the progression of that history.

My advice buy the Daytona and wait five years and buy the Next Maranello then. You might be able to get both for the price of the Next Maranello in todays money. Then you will have two appreciating Ferraris. Plus you will have more time to save up some money. Even if you had to trade in your 355 in five years to get the next Maranello you would still end up with a Daytona and the next Maranello. Instead of the 355 and the Daytona or the Next Maranello alone if you buy it now.

I hope that makes sence. I know it makes dollar to me!!

    Daytona V12 all the way.

You'll be known as that guy with the Daytona instead of just another 355 owner.

Like it matters what other people think.

You really need to drive a Daytona, and speak to a few owners.
They are way different than your modern driving Ferrari.

owned a vintage Ferrari before I was wondering if current owners could reflect on their ownership experience so far.

    Thank you.

I heard the Daytona handles like a truck compare to the Maranello. However, if depreciation is your concern, Daytona will be the choice for you.

Daytona for sure...vintage cars are unique...and value will keep going up..modern cars like the 355 will continue to depreciate. I drive a Maranello and a Daytona..on a daily basis, the Maranello is much more comfortable and a better "driver" for fun, the daytona for sure.

Driving the Daytona is a completely different experience from a modern Ferrari. You are constantly involved with driving. The combination of mechanical- intake- and exhaust sounds between 4000 and 7700rpm is just the best ever.

That being said, you have to take special care in traffic. The brakes are 35 year old technology. You better keep your distance. The car is very heavy, no power steering is very heavy at parking speeds. However, once driving it is wondedrfully weighted.

The roads to choose are the ones with the big sweepers. For years I drove 5000 miles per year and the car never left me stranded. However, using the Daytona a lot means that the normal wear and tear can really add up.

I still miss my Daytona, and as soon as the new garage is ready I want to add a vintage Ferrari to my stable again. However, I will really not use it any more as a year-round, frequent driver.

I sold my 360 Modena a year ago and bought a Daytona coupe. My timing was impeccable. I get a LOT more pleasure out of driving the Daytona than I did with the 360. The 360 is fast and fun, but too much like a video game. The Daytona is much more involving and visceral. It tingles ALL the senses. I had my 360 for 4 years and put on 5500 miles. I've my had Daytona for 1 year and have driven it 3300 miles. I think the Daytona is a great driver and don't find it that truckish. The steering is heavy only at parking lot speeds. It handles quite well and is nicely balanced. It sits at the cusp of vintage and modern and has aspects of both. There is no other Ferrari like it. It was Ferrari's over the top hot rod - fast, beautiful, sexy, and brutal.

It depends on that you like. I like older cars in general. The vintage V12 Ferraris are steeped in history in a way the new cars will never be. They were hand made and very solidly built with a more cost no object mentality. They were made in much smaller numbers. I like all these aspects, but many people may not care. A lot of folks like the modern technology and the new car driving experience over all else.

If the vintage car appeals to you, then you can't go wrong. If you decide you don't like the Daytona, you can sell it for at least what you bought it for (and maybe more), and pick up a 355 for less money than what you sold yours for.

I've driven many pre-1999 Ferrari cars and have owned eights and twelves. My experience in the Daytona is that it's pretty slow (I know it will do 170, etc.) by todays standards. I guess I would be worried about the complexity of finding parts and the down time required when sourcing parts for repairs. Just get on the web and try and find a fog lamp, side glass, alternator and a few suspension bushings. My wife says all of my old cars smell oily and stink up anyone in or around one. My 456 kind of reminds me of a Daytona - the same lines in the back and a similar hood. I guess if I had to compare similarly priced Ferraris, I'd get a sorted 365GTC4 traded across from a 355. You don't ever want to buy a needy vintage Ferrari (the $80k Daytona I passed up would have been a poor investment even if I got it for free!). It's a real apples to oranges question but i'd opt for the rarer, cheaper to buy and better sounding C4 (in black).
