http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/car/337560178.html I saw this car at Ferrari of Beverly Hills 10+ years ago when it had 65K mi. The interior was pretty tired then and probably much more so now. Nice to see it is still running. I think the seller is a little off price wise compared to any real offers he might get. If 2nd needs a new syncro (and while you're at it a new diff) $32K sounds right.
Nice to see that not all the clocks show 25,000 on these things. Might be a good beater for awhile unilt it falls apart and then restore.
93K miles, has needs - $52K?!?! Sounds like a bit of a stretch - that said, it IS broken in. Regards, Art S.
Yeah, nice $50K beater... Just get the guy at the Chevron station to pop a new synchro in there and you're set.
Well, its not gonna be entered in Cavallino....but if it runs great it could easily go another 90....look at Napolis' old tr
+ 1. Exactly!!! She'd be good for another 90k doing mostly highway miles. Now, if you live in an area that gets a lotta rain, and some snow, then you'd have to factor in the body and frame rusting which would shorten the cars remaining lifespan.
I think you can find alot of trs, 328s, 348s in that range without a broken synchro.....what makes anyone think that any of these cars even at 100k are good. A guy in toronto just bought a 2,000 mile 2004 360 spider.....all 3 drives have been towed back to the dealer...some eletrical.... Its always buyer beware, regardless of price no matter what you buy. My point was finally a car for sale that doesnt read 25,000km/miles and under
The buying public has misplaced faith in accurately represented odometer readings at the time of sale/purchase. Not just with Ferraris either.
yes....sad but true! I would guess that about half of the "low mile" Ferraris for sale have more miles than indicated on the odometer. It's easy to "arrange". I will go on record as saying that the flat-12 engine will easily go 100k, and with a bit of care go 200k miles, without any major problems. There aint many motors built as tough as a flat-12. Remember it's roots? It dates back to the early 70's forumula motors. Personally, I would like to see the day when a TR with about 40k to 50k miles on it is for sale, and people have confidence in the car because it has been well sorted. If a TR owner knows how to leave from a dead stop, knows how to shift, and knows how to brake, then there is no reason a Testarossa won't go well in excess of 100k miles. Think about that for a second. An "exotic" car that is fully depreciated, you buy it, drive it for many thousands of miles with care and maintenance, and it still has some value after all those "smiles". I find myself defending these cars whenever I can. Is this car with over 90k miles really so worthless.....?
do a search of my posts on this point, you'll have some reading for a while. When I was in high school (20+ years ago) 308's were advertised with 30,000 miles on the clock. Today they seem to all still have the same 30,000 miles. I could go on and on.
Unfortunately, if its a TR with transmission problems, it is that worthless. Regardless, I am sure that the owner will get his price if he stands firm, and that some unsuspecting guy will buy the car and be stuck spending $20,000 repairing the transmission.
I have nothing against high milage cars. However, if you can buy a fresh car with no, or minimal problems in the same price range, why would you buy the high milage car with known problems? Regards, Art S.
You're right, Dave!! That car would be worth more parted out, especially if the tranny problem is only a 2nd gear synchro. And as always, if the seller can find a sucker....
I also said before that this car would be good for a lot more highway miles, but around town miles with a bad 2nd gear synchro would not be good. So, for highway miles, keep it and put another 90k miles on the odo ! I'd rather see it on the road, where it belongs !!
Guys, My '88 has 114,000Km's on it and its looks better than new... but that's b/c i have spent a small fortune maintaining and upgrading my baby. For me resale value and the worth of the car is inconsequential b/c i do not ever plan on selling her. I use her as a daily driver and rev her and drive her the way she was meant to be driven.... not like some people i know...At 70k i had a new clutch put in her. At 80,000 km i had a new 512M tranny placed in her, at 90K i had the top end re-done and now at 114,000kms the interior and exterior are being completely overhauled and customized. Depreciation only really enters into the equation IF you plan on selling these pretties.....believe you me they are way better investments than these black holes....however, i'd do it all over again in aheart beat...TR's rock!
