My mother's house sustained NO WIND DAMAGE and only had 1/2 inch of water. One of only 5 homes in the neighborhood to survive! Neighbors had 5ft of sludge water in their houses.

Keep in mind that this was in Slidell, where total devastation occured. And we also found out her new puppy that was boarded in Slidell was evacuated safely by the vet!

Father's apt in Slidell had no water damage, and the roof caved in on one small guest bedroom. All valuables still in place as if nothing happened.

Father's house in Mississippi near Popplerville was UNDAMAGED. Well, the carport had a tree fall on it, but the house and pool house went untouched. 25% of shingles on roof missing, but thats nothing.

I am utterly speechless right now!

Also, Richard Thompson told me he went back to New Orleans to claim his car from a parking garage. He says every parking lot in downtown is a military zone. He also said that there was no BS from any crazed citezens who stayed for the hurricane. Apparently the city is getting fairly secured.

Someone is hooking up a generator tomorrow at Mother's house. But getting fuel to the area is VERY VERY difficult.

    Great to hear.

But with the way things are down there, do you think your mom will need a gun?

It is quite necessary. I said this in another thread, a close friend of mine went to school with me at Tulane in New Orleans.

His sister's really close friend brought his flat bottom boat down from Northern Louisiana to help rescue victims.

Upon getting to New Orleans he went missing within a couple of hours(estimated). Then his body was found floating, riddled with bullet holes, in the water. 1 block away, his boat, full of empty TV boxes.

Protection from lunatics is more required in this part of the country, at this point in time, than ever.
