A 4.0L Lusso Andrew? I've seen 6 carb, hot cam versions, but no 4.0L... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Gene, i think there was one. IIRC, Enzo's car. Wayne might be able to confirm this better than i can.
"Enzo's car" was 3097SA, a 400SA with a Lusso-similar body, but slightly larger all around. At a glance, one could not see the difference. Somewhere I have pix, but damned if I can find 'em. The pix of the ratty silver car were just a lame joke; I have no idea where they came from, although Jarrett says they are of 5791GT. And yes, I love the color of the blue Lusso. Oops, I just found the pix of 3097; here they are. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not exactly Pete, The LMB is not at all on the Lusso shell. The LMB is a 2500mm wheelbase car where as the Lusso is a 2400mm car. They share the same design visually but I dont think anything bodywise can even interchange. Chassis 4385 is essentially a Lusso with a GTO nose but even that is way different than an LMB. Ed
My first Ferrari was a Lusso--I've had two of them--and it always drew a crowd. I never parked it that I didn't turn and admire it as I walked away. The first one I ever saw was Jill St. John's parked behind the pits at Riverside Raceway. Some time later, I saw her pulling a cabin cruiser on a trailer with it on the 405 freeway.

Another pic of Mike Regalia's "McQueen" Lusso. perhaps the best resto ever on a lusso, although that blue car is awful purty! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here are a few pix of some that have gone through my grubby hands in years past. I agree that they are sweet cars, although the SWB remains one of my favorites. ( 5073, 5259, and 5505.) Mike, These pictures are really some thing! Just beautiful. Question: The carbs are silver or natural metal finish, not painted black, correct? Also what are your thoughts on the outside mirror. Didn't the Lusso come with no mirrors from the factory? What do you think of a large Talbot on the driver's side door? Gene.
Hi Geno, Lusso carbs are natural as cast metal. They were delivered with NO side mirrors, and I personally do not care for the Talbot mirrors on Lussos. You can see quite well without them actually, but I realize most would want something. Best, Mike
Gene: Forget the mirrors. Turn your head when making a lane change. The mirrors take away from the lines on the car. Hope the project is going well.
Gene, Don't put a permanent mirror on it. Get one of these small clamp-on mirrors from the UK, it lamps in by your quarter vent window and you take it off when you don't need it.
Thank you for every one's input. I like the look of the Talbot mirror in general, but do agree that it takes away from the lines of the car. Check out the baby Talbots mounted on both fenders. I guess at one time this was the trend to install them onto the fenders. How times have changed. There is now the "correct" way especially if one was to show these types of cars. Mike, I knew that the carbs are natural and unpainted. I got John at Motorkraft doing the motor and he was not sure. By the way, I got 40 DCL6 carbs on my car. I believe all or most Lussos came with 36 DCL, correct? Lastly, my car came with a plastic off white colored break booster reservoir. It has ridges on top of it, can't apply the blue colored sticker on it. I always see the metal type with a blue sticker on top. The restorer bought the metal type and the sticker already, but wanted me to first look into which is the correct type before swapping the parts. I wish I had pictures to display. Geno. PS Will you be at the Ferrari Nationals in WI?
Geno, Unfortunately my Daytona is still waiting for"dad" to get her done, so I probably won't make the show unfortunately. You are correct, Lussos were normally delivered with 36DCL carbs, and unless your motor has some other modifications as it left the factory 40's seem out of character for an otherwise stock motor. There has been much discussion as to the proper lid for the metal reservoir. Many if not most judges believe the blue anodized label was painted over in black wrinkle finish or black undercoating like the hood bottom. I would double check to see if that is still the prevailing consensus. Regards, Mike
Geno, I will be in Monterey, showing the McQueen 930 Turbo Carrera at the Quail on Friday........Mike
Lusso came with 36DCS carbs or 40DCL/6's please refer to Miska Book 36 DCL/6's were used on inside plug cars. I have yet seen this carburator version on an outside plug car.
