It will be safer to kill the battery (and trickle charger if fitted) and raise the headlight pods with the knobs on the lifting motors. Note that quite a few turns are required to lift the pods. The direction of rotation should not matter.

The US and Euro lend look the same lens wise for the dipped beams The high beams look different for sure euro looks like it wold diffuse less alright but we don't use those stateside really.

The euro lights have the little half moon cutoff section that is a bit higher than the DOT lights. Not sure exactly what that would do, but that's the difference I see. Also, in pictures the euro lights have a more pronounced "side kick up" than the DOT lights. And Barry, look at all that glare!
