Hi So i have seen lots of mentions in the threads about the merits or otherwise of a 2 tone car, and lots of advice to get the roof wrapped if you are not sure, especially when you look at the factory cost of the 2 tone paint. I have searched the forum and cans seem to find a specific thread on this, apologies if there is and if someone can point me to it. So my question is. Has anyone actually wrapped the roof of there 488/458 coupe, and if so could they post some pics and give some thoughts on it now that they have done it. I have had some wrap of parts on my merc coupe and and old wrangler but not as visible and to this extent. Thank you in advance for your help
Wrapping the roof was my first project lol. To me it makes the car look so much sportier. I can't say that for everyone because everyone has different taste on their cars. I honestly don't see the point in having the dealer paint it for 10k or 15k as an option. I might be wrong but I believe that's what my sales rep quoted me. What happens if you want to revert your roof color from black, back to the color of your car down the road? You can't, your stuck with two tone forever. Without the huge cost I decided to wrap it gloss black and down the road if I want a new look. I can just remove the gloss black wrap, then no more two tone 👍. 1 advice I had was to wrap the roof gloss black then xpel the roof and car. That way you will always have the gloss and the wrapped roof will be scratch free. On mines I only did xpel on the front end of the car. Full front bumpers, full hood, full fenders and side mirrors. For the rest of the car and the wrapped roof I had ceramic pro done on it. Just find a good shop that does car wrapping they should be able to do it easily. I live in the bay area so it's flooded here with car wrappers lol. No one can tell the difference but you if it's done good and going with gloss black. If you go matte black it's very noticeable that you had it wrapped and not painted. People ask me, I tell them it's wrapped and they are shocked it's not paint because it was done so well. Some random pics of before and after below wrap below. Most recent pic Whole car wrapped before so Its not my first time. Sorry about these pics just took them off my instagram really quick. cpiguy posted photos of his 488 roof wrap recently - looks superb - in the UK Topaz or Paintshield should be able to help - albeit not in Devon
Benny Thanks for sharing those pictures, I think you have convinced me that wrap is the way to go.... I was having a tough time deciding whether to go for the factory 2tone, as I really like the look of it but may get bored with it over time.. So definately going to go the wrap route now Thanks Michael
Hi Jimmie yes just had a look at CPIGUY and the 2 tone that does look smart as well. Thank you for the advice on the wrapping Regards Michael
Glad I can help Michael 👍 get the best gloss black wrap u can find from the installer because it can come in different shades. Lay it over ur roof and see what looks closest to paint. If u don't want micro swirls over the roof just clear bra the roof. If u ever get tired of two tone just remove. Its funny because I had some young guys in their 20s or 30s come up to the car and said wow "look La Ferrari". I told them no it's a 458 Italia. They thought it was a la Ferrari because with the black roof it looked more aggressive. I told them no I wrapped the roof and it's a 458 italia. Not trying to false claim here lol. But for a second there I felt like I owned a la Ferrari 😱. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Definitely wrap. 3M wraps are really nice. I did a matte black on my 458 (roof and rear) and was great. Cost <1k and fully reversible if desired. For the 488, i will merely wrap the side sills but not the roof.
Hi Robert Thanks for the advice again. I'm thinking I will wrap both the roof and the side sills and that way I get the best of both, I can revert back to the 100% Rosso corsa whenever I wish, just get the hairdryer out and peel it off!!! Regards Michael
Here you go. I'm very happy with the plastic look Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
CPIGUY- that looks awesome, and to think you still have the option to remove is brilliant. Definately the way to go , thank you for posting the pictures. Regards Michael
Thinking of wrapping my White 458 Spider Matt White with Black roof and going Black shields and Black pony on rear Thoughts !!
