Did Ferrari ever release and info about the F399 that broke in half at Monterey. Last I heard it went back to Maranello, but I have lost track if any data was released as to why it split the monocoque at such low speed.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

How about the GTO that I heard wrecked in Thursday practice?

How about that 355 C that had a complete spin in front of the stands on Monday? ;)

FWIW - not a real answer, but this thread: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37187&page=1&pp=20 from SoCalforum shows couple of pix of Kroymans car -- just boxes -- looks like no results yet.

    ciao

I would be very surprised if much of a report is made (they would like for the story to just die, they don't want to bring it up), or if there is, I would take it with a grain of salt. Ferrari will not admit fault of any kind. I have heard from more than one source that the driver is quite tall and had to have the cockpit area stretched, very suspicious. Don't know if true, just what the birdies have told me.

Yes strange how pictures of the GTO have never surfaced ... not sure if I could even look at them though :(. Can she drive? ... I mean should the driver really be driving the car?, maybe in need of an advanced driving course or 3?

We all have looses (even you Rob ;)), so was it just one of those?

A GTO spun out during the race. Is that what you mean?

    Was the 355C you?

There were a couple spins in the race, I know Shirly had one in T1 I think. However, I heard in Thursday practice a GTO actually hit something. Never seen pics or heard anything else about it. Not very many people there Thursday, so the story may never surface. Not that it matters, but heard it was a female driver. That might narrow it down which car.

:D First and last one ever in the C. ;)

I thought if you are not spinning, you are not driving hard enough? ;)

Well, Michael spun a bunch his last few races. :)

I spun much more when I first got into club racing. I hardly spin any more and I'm much faster of course. Kinda boring though. ;)

IMHO a spin is going a 110%. A skilled driver will go 98%-99%-100% consistently and then at 101%-102% get a little loose or go in too deep and then have to rein it back in the next lap at that same point. All without spinning.

My spin in the C was taking the wrong line and overcorrecting at the exit after running out of track. I should have just run 2 off and would have been fine. That's kinda a no-no at DE's, so I was avoiding it. Would have ended up much better off than the spin though. :)

Does that mean if i buy an F2004 that the factory will make the cockpit wider for my fat butt and taller for my size 15 feet????? ;)

I guess that would void the warranty.......

if it has been stretched I suppose that would be the end of the story and my answer.

Kroymans is pretty fast and I think he has won his class in the Ferrari Historic Challenge once or twice. He is a bit rough though and had some dents and collisions.

I don't think Kroymans wants the story to die out. Stretched chassis is just a rumour.

The rumor making the rounds is that the chassis was cut ahead of the cockpit and that a 150mm splice installed by bonding it between the two original halves. The chassis was not cured in an autoclave and the bonding broke, not the original chassis nor the splice piece. It was not done at or by Ferrari.

As I said, this is a rumor, but it would perfectly explain the nature of the breakage.

I've compared pictures of the Kroymans car with pictures of the launch of the F399 and I can't see the difference in length. 15 cm would easily be spotted. So I don't think the monocoque was lengthened on the Kroymans car.

Where did you hear this rumour?

I heard months ago from a source within Corse Clienti that the car was unmodified. I also mentioned this in the original Kroymans thread.
