It is missing some key pieces ... namely the transmission not to mention a host of other parts. A "good project" depends on your definition of what a good project entails. The car is in many many pieces. I know there are pics of the car looking semi complete but the front end shell is only sitting on the chassis. Everything under it is in pieces. The dash is destroyed as well as the entire roof (cut open with the jaws of life). It is a BIG project! I would say that if it could be bought right - around $75k - it might be worth the effort. Last I heard he wanted $125k+ which is way too much considering that you will have to source (and buy) and transmission as well as a number of other parts not to mention that amount of labor it will take to put it all back together. This is definately NOT a project for the weak hearted!

Jeffrey, thats about what i figured, the guy at costa mesa seems to think he can get the transaxle back, without the transaxle i wouldnt even think about it, hes asking 110K, i was thinking something like 85K with the transaxle,

being in pieces doesnt bother me, im an A&P and can put just about anything back together, when we would get an aircraft in for maintinence the hacks would tear the thing apart, not lable or bag anything, then sit there looking at the disasembled aircraft for a couple months, then about a week befor it was due for delivery they would call me and a couple other guys in to put it back together, man, does that bring back memories, LOL, im so glad im out of that place

Craig - If you are a "MacGyver" type of guy then I would say $85k with the transaxle would be a decent buy. Other than that ... I would pass. To the untrained eye (mine) it looks like someone's worst nightmare of a project. It's really a pity! Sad to see it the way it is now. :(

was this the F40 that was wrecked on Mullholland Hwy and the guy couldn't get out so the fire dept cut the car so he could get out?

If so, **** I would have rather stayed in the car and been fed through the window

Street accident. Mulholland drive. Driver was fine.

From when sheehan was selling the car...

2001, December, as per e–mail from the former owner:

Regarding the crash: I have no recollection of the accident. One minute I was driving, the next I was in the hospital being informed that I was involved in a bit of a fender bender. Actually, a head–on collision with a Jeep Cherokee on Mulholland drive. Nobody was cited by the Police.

2001, 15 Dec., e–mail from former owner when asked why the Fireman had gone berserk and cut the top off:

The rescue guys (went) full–Straman and cut the top off to get me out. I was resting at the time, and if they’d simply tapped me on the shoulder I’d have climbed out. Oh, well.

The biggest problem with this project is the missing gearbox/transmission/transaxle. The owner sold one of the most critical components which is literally unreplaceable. That missing piece turns a potential project car (albeit a challenging one) into a parts car.

Yeah its a fake webpage... I went through all the trouble to set up a fake URL so I could play a joke on you.... What are you talking about? As I said, at least you can get new F40 body parts here:

I didn't mean to imply that you personally set up a fake webpage. I see a lot of composites industry press releases, and this one seems, well, fake. It just struck me that way. It's like some "plastics" company comes along and says "We are introducing our new 'Plastic Technology' which we hope to sell to everyone in the world!" Just vague and strange. The company's website is really weird, too.

For interest, check out the ATR group - they have been responsible for the composite components of lot of our favorite cars.

Jeff, how sure are you as to the gearbox missing? I was told by Michaels at F of Costa Mesa, that the owner has the gearbox and is part of the sale.
Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

Wow that car has been around forever - I figured by now it would be parted out, lots more money to be made on parts. As for repairing, it would have to be a labor of love (like the guy in Germany that fixed another crashed F40) took him several years and still has some parts he is looking for - you'll definitely be upside down in parts alone (if you can find any).
