Took my 430 out today for some exercise. 1st time in a month (been away, then rain...) Those of you in my area would know this great Cassitas Pass Rd to Ojai. Anyways, on a couple 2nd gear corners, I pulled the left lever by mistake and downshifted to 1st !! Major ouch !!

The TCU software should really disallow downshifts to 1st past like 20 mph.

I have a manual, but F1 wouldn't let you mechanically overrev your engine, so no worries. If the ECU did the change, no harm to your car.

Concern not re over-rev, but the (expensive) clutch!

Poop happens, we all have to take responsibility for our actions. I do not want a car that drives itself and the F430 has enough drivers aids already.

Leason learned be aware of what you are doing at all times when driving any car. And as stated above, the computer is smarter than we are and will not downshift if the math don't allow for it...........Steve

Done that a couple of times, but really hate when I hit the wipers instead of the shifter.

I bet just about every F430 F1 owner has done that at least once in their ownership period.
Does frighten the crap out of you for sure.

I can see it happen when the car is not driven often and you can forget which way so innocently.
