    Bloody hell!

The Most And Least Expensive States To Operate A Car

Yes we around Atl. need to travel a lot but gas prices are pretty low in GA. So must be insurance and taxes!

We do pay a lot in Ad Valoriem, etc. But I guess we can offset that with our low(ish) property taxes? Maybe a lot of gov services come from our car taxes? Don't know.

Just a bit of a shock to see GA as the most expensive state to operate a car in. Not so good.

Our fuel prices....well if you go just above or below to SC or FL... we are getting ripped off at about 10c/gal to start with. Now just look at the 6pm news (or 7am), and the accident rate. Lets face it our own drivers who think NASCAR 24x7 are causing the accidents. So net-net other than the Ad Valorem, add on the fuel, then the insurance = OUCH. (Oh did I mention theft)

Damn, you guys edged us out. :(

I guess my $1300 license plate fees this year didn't put us over the top.

The cost of gasoline makes no sense. The list shows gasoline in South Carolina being higher than California. I just paid 3.09 this afternoon. I suspect it is higher in California. It must have something to do with average miles driven, but that doesn't make sense based on the data in the list either.

I believe it. In Atlanta you can't get anywhere without driving and the city is so spread out compared to other large cities. I think the "metro" area is the largest in the country, and the actual area people live in is much larger. I was in Tallahassee a couple weeks ago talking to my brother, about going to a bbq place. "Damn that's like 20 miles from here." I don't think anything of 20 miles, and my brother thought it was cross-country.

Our daily drivers are a 98 M3 and an 08 E350, both on a steady diet of premium, both averaging about 22mpg. Living in the burbs, I worked downtown and my wife was a financial consultant in Buckhead (traveling to see clients), we burned between 150-200 gallons a month. Ouch. Then my business started to take off, and I hired my wife. We both work from home now and our gas bill is a fraction of what it was. Incredible really. If you don't have to drive, Atlanta is a cheap place to live. But bring cars and travel time into it, and Atlanta sucks.

I'm sure that's the critical aspect for GA's unfortunate high ranking.

I know all too well as my commute to work is much longer than I'd like, and on any given day can easily be 30-40 min longer if someone has a wreck anywhere on the north end....

That's why it's essential to have an efficient daily driver.

That's why I drive a 991c2s as my daily driver. It's a great fun to drive efficient economy car that averages 24mpg on my 21 mile daily commute to work.
