I have read about speedo trouble but get this..:(

I started the car today and noticed that the speedo was jumping ever so slightly then it jumped to 40mph up to 100mph and stayed there for about 3 min then to 200mph buried the speedo for about the same amount of time, during this I was checking for bad connections.

I turned off the car turned the key to on position without starting it and the exact same thing started 40 to 100 back to 20 then 200mph and always staying at one speed for a few min, now after 30 min or so trying to find the problem I noticed that the odometer was moving as well WTF...

I think I put on at least 90 to 100 miles on the car without moving an inch...

    Oh wait it gets better

So now in a panic I turn the car on thinking that maybe if I drive it it will fix the problem, so away I go and after I get on the highway sure enough it clears up ????

So now I go and meet up with my friends for a cars and coffee we decided to drive out of town and half way there it starts up again for a few seconds then nothing
it stoped dead(the speedo)and that was it hasn't moved since...:(

The rest of the day was awesome just no speedo, until the check engine 5/8 came on...

I read somewhere that the C,E,L comes on when there is a problem with certain malfunctions such as the speedometer is this correct?

Has any one else experienced this? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!

I think the speedo problem might be an easy one, let's hope..

Your speedometer signal error code is 4123 if you want to check your 5/8 ECU codes.

Also, to determine if your speedo problem is in the speedometer gauge itself or in the remote "sender" pulse generator unit that is mounted on the tranny:

Your speedo sender pulse generator has a twist/pull plastic electronic disconnect near your left rear shock, so disconnect it (just for this test)! Once disconnected, start your car and while idling check to see if your speedometer is still winding clockwise and odometer adding miles (or still duplicating whatever bad behavior/conditions were being displayed previously)...

If yes, then the problem is inside your speedometer gauge (likely an IC failure in one of the pulse counting chips).

If no, then the problem is typically your pulse generator sender part.

This is a free test. With Ferraris, it's generally best to do the free tests first before buying/changing parts (maintenance costs can add up!).

I had an Aprilia motorcycle that used to do the same thing. I finally traced it to a low battery causing all kinds of havoc with the electronics inside the speedo.. and yes the odometer would clock off miles while not even moving. It almost caused a divorce since I thought my wife was taking joy rides on my bike while I wasn't around.
My point is low voltage can make them do crazy stuff. ND has you in the rights connection. Before I spend $1 on any parts I would clean and apply stabaliant to every bit of metal assciated that circuit. In fact I do beleive Stabilant will fix just about ANYTHING on a 348 except a cam belt LOL.

    I love F-chat :D:D

Thanks to both of you I will try tomorrow

So I am correct that the check engine 5/8 is a direct result in the speedo.

Could be. Pull your codes to be sure, though.

Ahhhhhhh a 355, that changes everything.. the speedo problem is part of the self distruct sequence... take your 355 and trade it for a 348 as quick as you can...... it's your only hope at this point.......:") Or just wait till someone give you the insructions to pull codes for the 355, otherwise the rest of the advice applies

I think that code reader is an OBDII, so if you have a '95 355 which has OBDI (Motronic 2.7 like the 348), it may not give you the codes you need. I suspect the 348 procedure will work with the 355, though.

It's probably the sending unit on the left side of the gear box. I had to change the sender on my 348 a while back. The wires were in bad shape and oil got inside of it because the seal was all dried out. Put in a new one, and all back to normal.

But first things first. Pull the engine codes.

My 355 does not have a speedo problem, I was just reading along this thread.
"No Doubt" wrote that "Night life" should pull some codes. And since he just wrote that like it was something everybody knew how to do I just wanted to know how :)

    He knows
Don't sweat it, ribbing each other is part of ownership, sort of like buying a hairdryer for your 355...:p

I have sort of the same issue. My speedo goes belly up all the time when driving. A little whack to the dash as it comes back alive. I have noticed it adding ghost miles before too. I was pissed. Try to get someone to buy that one during the sale. Ohh its really got 2K less because of the speedo gremlin hehehe.
