The video didn't work in the other thread when

    i went there.

That's a really neat story. It's kind of a feel good. The grandkids took that big of an interest.

    Very cool.

The veterans are a treasure. Not too many of them left to give first hand accounts of what the war was really like. Listen and listen well, while we are still fortunate to have them with us.

    And thank them!!!

awesome! Not aviation, but my dad found some of his 8mm film he shot when he was the supply officer on a Sumner class destroyer in 58-59. We converted it to digital, so now his grandsons can see some cool depth charge and gunnery exercises. Not surprisingly, he was not allowed to shoot footage of the two-dozen nuclear bursts he saw at Eniwetok or the fire they took from the Chinese when they ran the Quemoy-Matsu blockade . . . . .

Back when I was flight instructing, I signed off a sharp young kid in the Citabria shortly after soloing him in a Cessna 150. I was out with another student when I noticed that after he performed a flawless touch-n-go, his tailwheel was laying on the runway. I radioed him "You lost your tailwheel, no big deal, just make a normal landing." What I should have said was "Make this one a full stop" He tried to avoid tail contact and set up the most dramatic pitch oscillation I've ever seen. Still it worked out fine and I was proud of him.

you didn't tell him to make a wheel landing and taxi? :D I never got to that skill level, but my instructor could do a wheel taxi. my best moment instructor told me you have no stick, land the plane! it was one of my best landings just using the trim. never wanted to try again though.
