Just a quick post to give my experience and bias opinion on a X-OST just installed on my 87 1/2 TR. I LUV IT!!!!!! It sounds absolutely fantastic, fit up perfectly, and looks stunning. The sound at idle is very deep, there is no resonance at any rpm, windows up or down. I've gone down to the garage 3 times just to hear it again, and took it for a spin. My wife could here me coming down the street, over the washing machine Guess who's having the most fun today!!! PS. Will be posting a separate thread about service manuals
Danny -- Can you also please give a description of the rest of your upstream exhaust system configuration. For example: header + precat + cat + X-OST silencer or header + punched-out precat + testpipe + X-OST silencer or header + whatever... TIA
Sure, hopefully I will describe correctly. The exhaust is stock until the cats( not the precats) which have now been replaced with "test pipes". THe test pipes are from Stebro. The exhaust muffler is the X-OST unit. Headers and precats are the factory units. Hope this helps.
Yes that does, but I would add that you still have some uncertainty in your description if you don't know if your precats are intact or punched out (many are punched out or have failed thermally and are effectively blown-out). Unfortunately, this issue about sound quality always gets confused here because people only mention the brand of the silencer without considering the presence of the upstream precats and/or cats. The (intact) US TR stock exhaust system is very muted, and IMO would remain muted regardless of added silencer brand if the rest of it is all still there (i.e., someone just adding an X-OST to the stock set-up might be disappointed -- it's been reported before with Tubi). At the other extreme is header + testpipe(s) + silencer which is identical to every mid-60's 12 cyl F -- usually sounds pretty good
I'm really not sure about my precats, however, I do think they are operating. I also have to say that I had already installed an aftermarket exhaust, and was not too thrilled with the results. I'd rather not say what system it was in public, but if interested you can pm me. So, this is actually the 3rd system on my TR. It is a tremendous sound improvement over the factory system as well as the other system I just removed. I have no opinion regarding extra power,as a matter of fact I doubt there is any significant improvement, but is sure sounds faster(sic)
i have heard this particular tr several weeks ago and can attest to how wicked this car sounds! the x-ost system is lovely to look at w/ full mirror polish and the sound far exceeds that of a tubi...it totally roars. it actually made me laugh and mutter...thats what i'm talkin bout!!!!! the hell w/ tubi at 4 times the price...x-ost is a value!!! i already told JTR about this for our boxers...i think we will be in. pcb
I have the X-OST on my 1990. The pre cats were removed as the media had come apart and blocked the exhaust. I also installed bypass pipes from OST. I couldn't be happier with the sound or performance of the car after the install.
I was asked to post a clip when I got my X-OST / HyperFlow cats installed. See thread... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129940
Thanks for the chip Rob. Thinking of getting X-OST from Daniel at Recambi for my TR as a Christmas present to myself. Have been a good boy....honest. Image Unavailable, Please Login
for some reason, your sound clip does not sound nearly as raucous as gary's. my be the distance and quality of the cam. i must say that gary's simply roars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it may be too loud for some but i got chills.
daniel, is there a version w/ only 1 resonator? the tr system is supper loud...that is what i want! let me know daniel.
The clip I put together was editted. Here is some of the 'cut' part that includes more revs... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bought mine factory direct from the web and saved some money. The guys at X-OST Racing have you wire the funds and then they ship out the product when completed. Here is a picture of the Boxer set-up installed. (this is not my car just picture from the X-OST site of the Boxer install) Image Unavailable, Please Login
