    Project for my 550 Maranello:
Thinking about removing the center muffler right after the two cat:s and replace by either an X pipe or two straight pipes to be connected with the remaining rear pipes.
What I want to acchieve is a richer but now louder sound. I have removed the rear exhaust "valves" so the system is already more open.

Yes, I HAVE searched the forum, and I have also read most of the material.

The reason for "re-posting" is simply to see if there migth be some new experience to be added.

When I rebuilt my Daytona engine a year ago or so, I had the rebuilder, Carobu Engineering, do complete dyno runs on the motor before I took it back. One of the things they checked for me was the performance with and without x pipes (I was already running straight pipes, having removed the center mufflers before the rebuild).

Dyno results showed a distinct "torque hole" from about 3000 to 5000 rpm with the straight pipes. With the X-pipes, that hole was gone. Seat of the pants driving showed much better mid-range pull.

If you are interested, I can repost the hp vs. rpm curves for the two cases. Carobu said on the Daytona the front muffler mixed the gasses from the two pipes coming from each side of the engine. That mixing was beneficial, and removal of the mufflers removed that mixing.

YMMV, of course. All of the closed loop electronics in the control of the 550 might mitigate some of the problems.
