Got to see the one at Wright Pat up close and personal on a EAA Warbirds tour. What a beautiful machine. Go to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton and see that awsome beast.

I heard talk that they were going try and fly one again, to get some flight data from it for the new supersonic transport that they are working on.

I know they did that with the Russian version of the Concorde in the mid 90's I belive. That would be really amazing to see that XB-70 in flight..they should do a touring of airshows with it..If they ever get it flying again..

I bet it costs over 100,000 an hour to fly including maintenance.

I heard the all-electric flight controls on the Valkyrie had a few short comings, probably because there were no computers to analyze flight attitude of the craft, regulate and average control inputs like today's a/p's (fighters).

Ironically there is a new commercial airliner that is going all electric. The only hydraulics on the entire a/p will be the landing gear actuators. This will save a lot of weight. True "fly-by-wire".

There's a book about the XB-70 project called "The Manned Missle." It's an old book that's long out of print. Finding a copy may be a problem. They may have a copy at the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio, or maybe the Smithsoniam In Washington DC.

I use tohave a copy of it, but it was lost long long ago. . .

What a lucky fellow I was a long time ago. As a motion picture guy back in the 60s I got to go out to Palmdale and document the taxi tests on that beast. At that time the brakes kept leaking hyd fluid and it was a 30 day trip for not much of anything. Mosi impressive thing I remember was what a noise maker that thing was... Sam...

With six after-burning "suck & blows" the thing must have been ear shattering.
I would have love to have seen/heard a take off at Military power.
