With GT5 for PS3 getting pushed back until summer or fall of 2010, I thought about purchasing a Xbox 360 for Forza 3 to hold me over until the release. I went to Gamestop last night to get a core system for $199, also thought about a refurbished unit for $130 but kept hearing the these unit are the most prone the "red circle of death". The salesman said not to get the core system but the more expensive unit at $249 to 299, I would still also have to add the wireless network unit at $99 so I could play online. Not to mention the Xbox Live subscription cost even though it really isn't that much. ($5 per month?) This put me in a quandary, I don't know of anyone that has one in my area just a lot of Wii & PS3 owners. Is the system really that good for online gaming?

    YES!

It makes the PS3's online look like a total joke.

I could probably sell you a used adapter for less. It works 100%, i just don't use it anymore since i now have an Ethernet connection.

I would get the 360 over the PS3. Make sure you get one with a hard drive.

I'd get the Elite model because it comes with a HDD and you need it for Forza3(comes with 2 discs). Make sure it has a jasper chipset which means make sure it has 12.1A/150w power-supply. Those models are much more reliable. (built from around sept08 onwards) so unless the store has old stock they should be all Jasper now.

The Core system is no longer made you only have the choice of the arcade or elite model.
Prior to Sept09 the elites also came with HDMI cable.

Xbox Live is hands-down better for online play you gotta pay for the service but because of that the service is great and rarely down and most games have low pings. Can easily have a party of 8 players all chatting and playing games :D The only thing it doesn't do is provide the beer

My xbox sits a few feet from my router so I don't need wireless.

You don't need ppl in the area, you have us on fchat :D I have played with dudes from the UK and USA(im from oz) and the game has always been playable/enjoyable even with the higher ping.

    Goodluck :D

I just plug my cable modem into the XBOX 360 for online play. I've never had a slow down on either online play or streaming netflix through the xbox. You can always buy the arcade version for $199 and add a hard drive later.

The 360 is a great system IMO.

I have several 100 ft. of Cat 5 cable that I ran through the house years ago before Wireless started picking up, and was faster than 11 mb/s. Back then, CAT 5 was 11c/ ft. I'm glad it's there when the wi-fi goes down...
