I'm surprised that it did not sell for more, actually. 40th Jaguar E-Type ever made sells at auction for £88k - Autoblog
Interesting - I get that it's an early model, but in rough shape and not original color. Who knows what "goodies" are lying underneath, but I'm happy because I own a FHC, and like seeing the value on these go up.
I didn't think it was that rough... maybe a dent in the nose (or maybe a reflection), needs detailing, touch-up. Agree the paint color change is an issue; not a Jag color (Porsche?). Interior looks great.
What would it be worth properly restored? These are collector cars, the flat-floor E's are only suitable for short people Best, Jack.
For a FHC, maybe $130k? It's early production, so maybe $150, but that's OTS territory and coupes track lower than convertibles.
After selling my OTS I was having pangs for a coupe which I always loved. I called Classic Showcase regarding a coupe they have. It's the owners car, without bumpers and dunlop solid wheels( I love this look), lots of upgrades and I hope perfection. They said 200K. I was almost laughing. I would believe an early, flat floor, car could get close to 150K in flawless condition, the right colors and at the right venue. They are smaller in the interior than later cars and later E-types aren't big to begin with.
I paid a high price for a 62 FHC, more than my drop head. But it was all original, 25,000 mile, original paint and interior in great colors, and all documentation going back to the original bill of sale, including photo of accepting delivery. I mean a box of receipts!
