What do you need to know ? France is a country that is not part of the USA and the date code suggests this tire should have been retrieved from a scrap heap !

    F3 is the factory code

I believe DoT codes were adopted in France from 2000, so the tyre appears to predate 2000. https://toutsurlepneu.michelin.com/le-pneu-cet-inconnu-le-marquage

I don't see an American DOT date code (which is 4 digits) in the images posted.

They're French tyres and apparently France is like a whole different country or something. Who knew?

The OP is in Chicago (a city in America), so I'm assuming the car is as well. My DD has tires made in Korea, yet they still have US DOT-compliant date codes.

So, either these tires predate DOT regs, were installed on a car in another country, or a semi-combination of something along those lines.

that tire is on my spare and I still have the other four in my attic and cant get to them now. and I cant figure it out. When I was at the Ferrari museums in maranello and Modena I could figure out the xwxs on all the cars. just curious if its from the factory or maybe the 80s. I have 2 - 3 inch thick binders of maintenance and have never seen any receipts for tires. so being stamped made in france should mean its pretty old

But surely if as you claim in post one and again in post #14 you can read XWX tire dates you will know that before they went to two digit years they had single digit years......

They cannot predate DOT codes because it clearly shows DOT on the sidewall

Just because they are Made in France does not mean they are old since one can still buy brand new XWX

In case you need reminding https://www.tirebuyer.com/education/how-to-determine-the-age-of-your-tires

    Probably week 46 1984

    Pre 2000 3-digit DOT code 464 means week 46 of 1994, 1984, 1974...

So I looked at my other 4 tires and it reads 258. 25 week and what? 78 88 98? If my spare is 74 I would think the others are probably 88. I bought the car in 2001 and the tires were shot so definitely not 98. And the other tires don’t have the MOYO like the spare. So I’m thinking 74 on the spare. The car is January 75

Thx I would like to But for me to spend that kind of money on a 1000 mile a year car (or500 miles) is hard to swallow. Though there is a possibility I may but some in the future

Not bad. Since some countries in Europe introduced our single currency 'Euro' (€) to replace the numerous national currencies, the price of the XWX has doubled. As far as I remember, around year 2000 a Michelin 205/70 XWX was around 350.00 German Marks, what would convert to approx. € 175.00.
    I keep my 16inch wheels :)

    Best from Germany
