How many cars can that hold? Have you assembled it yet? Be careful of Ikea, price and style are great but build quality and material is not. I bought a book case that was slightly cracked and beyond the wood is a mash up of dust and cardboard muck.

    Is it hard to build?

Hey Chris, you shld hold off on building the cabinet. I have the same piece, but I customized mine. I had a welder add extra steel rods in-between each existing shelf holder, then had a glass shop cut me extra shelves. It was easy to spray paint the steel skeleton black again after the welder was done. I effectively doubled my display space.

Will try to take a pic later tonight if possible.

Here is a quick photo... I went from the stock 3 glass shelves, to 7 glass shelves plus the wooden base.

I have one as well, but I don't have anyone local that can weld additional shelving rods. I put a few models and 1:1 helmets in mine.

It isn't difficult to build. The instructions say it would be best if you have another set of hands, but I was able to do it by myself. The box is really heavy though, I think the product tag said about 80 lbs.

For the money, you can't go wrong...I plan to pick up another one soon.

Not really, you need 2 people tho. One to do the stuff and one to hold the glass while you're doing the stuff

***EDIT:***Damn, pics don't work. Too big. Gimme a min

Btw, before anyone asks: I only have one 1/18 ferrari model because: 1) Hot wheels quality sucks and most of the models i want i've looked at and have not got them because of how bad they are. 2) I prefur vintage models 3) I'm waiting for exoto to come out with their Ferrari's. As soon as they come out, i'll be their #1 customer :D 4) I'm considering getting into BBR models

as soon as #3 or #4 happen, this case will be FULL

    EDIT #2:

    Ok, here they are:

Looks good, I also have thought about getting a case from IKEA but I have way too many 1/18th & 1/43 cars. One you have would be good for my 1/43rd's but I'd need more shelves. You can get some great deals there, since I moved back to DFW, I'm no longer near an IKEA but one is being built in Frisco, TX next year north of Dallas.

    Chris,
Nice cabinets. A lot of the airplane diecast collectors also use that brand, since the planes (1:400 scale) can be spread out nicely.

Good choice. Time to fill it.

Nice collection and case. Last year I bought out the stock in Seattle and Vancouver of Ikeas Niklas. I have twelve set up in the garage. Not yet finished with the stocking and displaying. 10000+ is the reason. I still have 10-15 large boxes to look through and find room in the cases. I never will have the room. I will post a picture as soon as I subscribe and figure out the tech aspects.

Greg - where did you get that massive 996TT? What scale is it? Also, Grand National (or GNX) - what scale? I can't tell.

Hi Joe, the GNX is 1:18 and its made by GMP.

The 996 is 1:12, and is an RC car - I got it from the Exoticar shop in NYC. It is not diecast, but rather hi-tech plastic - interior not great but it displays well. Dsnt fit inside the case but it goes with many other 1:12s I now have.

I'll get around to photographing my collection later this Fall. I must have upwards ot 250 models of various scale. My 1:43 and 1:12 Ferraris being my favorites.

Ok.. i know this is non-Ferrari ... but... whats the scoop on that Delorean on the lower shelf in front of the Bicycle?? There was VERY little made on that car... I only know of 2.. one being 1/18 with a choice of the Back to the Future junk on it or stock.. The one you have looks intruiging.. a clay model? or metal?

    very curious...

    thx

The DeLorean is a custom piece I bought from a modeler in the UK. It is resin cast from an Aoshima brand 1:24 Back to the Future static kit. It was then aluminized to look just like pewter. I spent approx $50 US about 3 years ago on it. They are all done by hand by one individual - I doubt there are more than 30-40 of these cast DMC's out there. I still like it better than the diecast 1:18 models currently out.

I'll try to snap a few closeup shots of it this week.
