i dropped my dell latitude d520 today while at work, the screen is all messed up. i hooked it up to an external monitor, and everything else seems to be working fine, given that i'm still using it right now, less the screen. i did a search and saw that i'm looking at probably 250-400 to replace the screen, as i let my computer slip out of warranty, and it probably won't be covered regardless. (however, has anyone had experience with this - can i renew the warranty even though it's about 2 months out of it and still get the screen fixed?) i went to best buy's website, and although i'm willing to spend around 7-800 for a new one (i don't need the top of the line, i basically use my computer for internet and word processing) i found this compaq that seems to be a great deal for 450: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8898357&type=product&id=1212192622683
what's your take on this? it seems to be a lot better than the one i currently have, and the price is definitely appealing, :)

The screen Is a write off, even if you did have a warranty it wouldn't cover the screen. That laptop looks really good it has great specs and a good price.

i got the compaq, and as i sit here using it, i can't believe that for right at about half the price i paid for my old laptop which was about 3 years old (not really, got a new replacement through warranty about 6 months ago, which really ticked me off when i broke it) i got a computer that's much nicer, 200 gigs, a much faster processor, a slot for my sd card, better picture quality, a dvd rw, etc. the only downside being is that it's gonna take me a while to get used to vista.

I hope you like confirming everything you do. Do a google search and read up about turning all that crap off, best thing I did.
