I was watching KOMO TV & they showed a yellow Ferrari catching on fire while filling up at a gas station. Does anyone know who’s Ferrari it was? It looked like a 308 GTB. I hope the person filling up the car at the pump did not get hurt.

. They showed the guy's name on the report but I can't remember it right now. I do not believe he belongs to the club. It doesn't ring a bell.
    Has Stewart sold his yet?

OK Zonker is going through another color change!! From yellow to charcoal!

Nope that wasn't me. Even though that would have nice I would be *that* much closer to getting my Aston....

My car only "shoots" flames and get others on fire ;)

    Just caught the news item.

The guy's name is Eric Wasser (Rosser?). A 77 yellow 308 GTB, WA plates 977 SNB. This was at a Redmond gas station.

saw this car just after paint at eurotech bodywerks in kirkland a couple months back. never met the owner, but the car was just out of paint. i guess from talking with the owner of the shop the car was a basketcase and the owner was restoring the car. at the time it was in pretty bad shape. the leather was poor and the engine looked very bad off. the paint and body was stunning though. my guess from looking under the bonnet is a leaky old rubber fuel line sprayed onto the manifold. it was in need of all new hoses and lines. very sad. i saw the news and burst out "i know that car" i had to run tot he garage to make sure my car was still ok. funny thing is i just bought $100 worth of new hoses and lines to replace the old ones. guess i will have to step that up.

Mine are all fresh as of last winter. Not difficult to do, just time consuming. Cheap insurance in the long run.

i just got a bug up my butt one day so while out cruising around i dropped by a autoparts store and cleaned em' out of hose and line. for some reason i felt a need to have those hoses replaced on my 308. looks like i have my weeknights covered this week.

Don't forget the filler neck hose. Mine was cracked really bad. A good chance that is what took this one out. NAPA #1055 and Marmon clamps #705-1531

Thanks for hosting the video. Sad to see a GTB go out like that, but at least the owner is okay.

This brings back some bad memories for me, as shortly after I bought my 308, I filled up the car, went in to pay and the clerk said "hey dude, there's a huge puddle under your car". I went out, dabbed my fingers in the puddle, smelt them... Holy crap, gas!!!

Thankfully, it was one of the evaporative system's hoses, which was far away from the exhaust manifold. In any case, it scared the **** out of me and I quickly had all of those hoses changed afterwards. I couldn't believe how rock-hard some of those hoses were when I took them out.

The video I saw also showed the station attendant pulling the hose out of the gas tank while it was still on fire, and then hitting the fire with an extinguisher.

For those that haven't replaced their filler neck hose on their 308s, I've got a lot leftover from doing mine (they made me buy a 3 foot length). $10 shipped in the continental US, PM me. This story is why you need to make sure it's done...!

I saw this in Seattle over the weekend and in the Los Angeles Hotel July 5th.

They interviewed the owner and he was very calm about it.

As stated above, hoses should be changed and clamps tightened periodically.

I suppose it is to late for a factory recall.

As many on this board knows, this is a common issue as the car ages. Looks like another project for me to do very soon.
