Hood looks great! Very subtle and does not ruin the look of the hood . Good job.
waow! cant wait to see the hood on, spectacular. What wheels have you got? maybe the standard modular wont be aggressive enough for the hot rod look.
A long time ago HRE made a "ferrari bolt pattern adapter to centerlock hub" for HRE centerlocks. If a centerlock could be sourced that would make a statement.
Thanks for the positive comments John, Carl and Thrash... John-Yes I would have preferred larger louvers, but it was impossible unless I cut the hood bracing on the bottom side. I didn't want to do that and I settled for what you see. They do appear larger in person versus the photos. I haven't performed any trough work on the bottom side either. Water entering? Only when parked. I will not attempt to drive the Yelo Hot Rod in the rain...although surely I will get caught out at some point Best laid plans...I'll take some pics of the bottom side over the weekend. Thrash- 19" NF2s for the Yelo Hot Rod...shown earlier in the thread.
A little late, but as promised, here are the pics of the back side of the hood. Note the vent size and quanity were based on the support bracing locations as I didn't want to cut into the braces. I then got a little side tracked and started playing around with some aluminum thermo paper to protect the paint from the heat. I first cut out some patterns in the shape of the area on the hood I wanted to cover. Once I completed the pattern I then folded the pattern in two so I could trim the pattern to be uniform on both sides. I then placed the pattern onto the aluminum thermo paper and then cut the thermo paper to the pattern I made. I tried a couple of thermo pieces and placed them on the hood. Since I've got this screeching loud T/O bearing, I've decided to change the clutch assembly. I removed the rear brakes, axles, changed the fuel filters while I was there, and drained the trans oil...including the filter as I migrate towards the trans removal. Don't over look the trans filter as part of the draining process...here's why...Note the metal chips in the upper left corner of the filter I removed. I doubt this has ever been changed on the Yelo Hot Rod. Image Unavailable, Please Login
GS, thanks for the underside pics of the hood; it's pretty apparent why you didn't go any larger with the louvers now - I wouldn't have either Curious which brand of reflective barrier you chose & why? There's a plethora of that stuff out there and not much long term testing feedback on which works the best, etc. Tranny filter looks pretty nasty. Hope your synchros are OK.
Thermo Tec was born out of the aircraft industry and it was only aluminized heat barrier thermo shield that could actually produce testing results. I was not impressed with Dynamat. I also used Thermo Tec for heat protection of my battery as well. Thermo-Tec : Full product line Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ok I just received my vent housings back from Robbie at Sticky-no-more. Robbie does great work. Note the new arrows. Removing the vents from the dash is simple...It's a slip fit and just requires soft pry tool to walk them out of the dash. It's a little trickier to separate the chrome ring form the vent, but still easy with a little patience. Just depress the little plastic tabs and work your way around in a circular manner while putting a little pressure pulling them apart by hand. Each vent has six tabs. Cleaning these chrome rings must be done very gently with rubbing alcohol, careful not to damage the chrome or the painted surface. Do not rub hard. Once I received the vent housings back from Robbie I snapped the ring and the housing back together. There's a guide slot in the housing so the ring will only go on one way. Gently snap the two pieces back together. Don't force anything or you will break one of the tabs. Just be patient. Oh I almost forgot, I picked up the front bumper from the paint shop for the Yelo Hot Rod on Monday. I decided to keep the lower extremities black, as the car was originally delivered. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My tech in vegas put this around my battery, it seems to be much heavier than yours. Don't know the technical information about it. Cheers, Bill Image Unavailable, Please Login
I love holidays I got a little work done this morning on the Yelo Hot Rod. I picked a pair of BMC air filters a while back and decided to coat them and install them. They're suppose to give you some more ponies...we'll see... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a brand new pair in my garage but I've been afraid to use them because I heard the oil can mess with the MAF sensors. Please let us know how it works. I would love to use them if they don't interfere. They were hard to get.
Time to install the 575 radiator shroud for additional cooling support. The great thing about this upgrade is it is a direct bolt on with no modifications. Very simple...I cleaned the dirt and debris from the radiator fins and painted the top tank of the radiator. Note the comparison shot of the two shrouds. Quite a size difference. I also noticed that the spa fans are actually balance as evidenced by the strategically placed clips on the blades... The finished installation is shown in the last pic. Hope that works well for you GS. Was that the only change you made? didn't change the fans or the radiator itself? If that was the sole change, it'll be REALLY interesting if you notice any differences.
The only reason you would get MAF sensor malfunctions is from over saturating the filter gauze with the oil solution. People have a tendency to think that more is better, when in this case it is not. K&N has excellent instructions, and I follow theirs. Use the spray bottle type application on the filters. Spray in even strokes approximately 3 or 4 inches away in the direction the pleats travel moving your way down until you have covered each pleat...repeat the process on the other side...one time on each side is all that is needed...no more. Do not spray in a circular motion or randomly. Then set the filters face down on a shop towel, (as you would when installing them) in the sun for 20 minutes. This lets the oil solution travel thru the gauze and any access will drain thru onto the shop towel you placed them on. Wipe any access residue off. Hope this gives you the gonads to install your BMC filters
This is helpful. Thank you. I'll let you know if filter installation gonads arrive intact. Also, what is the status of them in the box? Are they completely dry and need to be oiled?
Yes the BMC filters come pre-oiled and in a sealed plastic wrapper. Even easier if yours are new. No fuss, no muss Your gonads are growing...
Hi John-I did make some other small changes to the cooling system on the Yelo Hot Rod. I converted the coolant tank to a conventional radiator cap utilizing a Stant 18-22 lb cap...I also changed the Thermostat to a lower rating and drilled two 1/16" opposing holes in the thermostat flange. We use to do this on our race cars to help encourage the air bleeding process, as well as the fill process. Additionally I will be using RO water with the recommended Shell coolant. Silicone hoses as well. Radiator, Water pump and pulley remain stock.
After sealing off the gaps between the shroud and radiator, I attempted to install the radiator. It wouldn't quite slip into place. I found the upper mounts interfered with the new 575 shroud due to the increased size. So much for the direct bolt on with no mods That also tells me that the 575 has different upper radiator mounts than the 550. I ended up having to cut down and modify the upper radiator mounts on each side. Still an easy mod...The pics show the before and after modification. Ok I finally mounted the hood and the front bumper onto the Yelo Hot Rod. Couple of notations...Both the hood hinge mounting pads as well as the bumper frame mounts have shims for the proper alignment. I marked them all left and right. It was difficult getting some good shots of the hood as the nose of the Yelo Hot Rod are too close to the back wall. Additionally I performed the final install of the Fog Lamps.
