I have bought my first Ferrari, and like my other weekend classics, I would like to meet others with the same interest. Is there a Ferrari group in north eastern Florida?

Has anyone ever changed one of the AC vents on the top of the dash?

    Hello Doug...

Congrats on the 308! Had a '85 308 GTSi QV as well but traded it last year. They are wonderful machines.

I'm over here in Orange Park. There are a few owners here in the area, and I'd be glad to try and hook you up with them if you'd like. They oftentimes meet up for local shows, cruises, and lunch/dinner meets.

If you need a local independent mechanic, there's Omega Motorsports (Steve) over off of Beach Blvd. near Brumos.

At any rate, enjoy the 308...and feel free to shoot me a PM.

    Now you drive!!

Congratulations and welcome. FChat is a great place for new Fcar owners (though it seems you have quite an auto pedigree already).

    Enjoy!

Amen, PLEASE drive the car and make sure she gets warm to hot each time. It is just a car so do not worry about the rain or occasional rock chips, door dings, etc. as those are easily fixed. If you let the car sit undriven for too long it can harm the car.

Also, try a few fun track days via FOC and FCA or others. No way to legally know how much fun the car is unless you track it. Amazed how few people do the safer track thing, but speed illegally on unsafe public roads.

Congrats on your purchase. Also, you might want to post this thread in the Florida section for a greater response.

What, are you nuts? Outside?! ;)

Congrats, Doug. The Ferrari Owners Club seems to have a lot of events in California. I'd imagine it's also active in Florida.

Yep, I want to change all the fluids,

From the recomendations of a very good source and respected Ferrari mechanic I will not use silicone brake fluid, what do you other owners recomend for the oils, and where do I buy the oil filters.
I hear the 308's needs a different oil filter than what I can buy at Auto Zone
Kendal 20-50 racing for the engine? What about the trans/differencial?
What about "water Weter" instead of antifreeze? good idea or unnecessary?
What are you guys thought about removing the cat, and using a test pipe? I don't know if I have stock exhaust and don't really want to make it any noiser, I cant hear the radio as it is,( nowthere is a sign of age!).

    Hi Doug...

The top recommendation for 308 QV oil filters would be the Baldwin B253 (comes with internal standpipe - very important). Here's a search for recent threads on this topic:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/search.php?searchid=882854

And here's a more specific thread on the same topic:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87072&highlight=baldwin+filter

With regard to oil recommendation, the consensus here (and per my previous independent mechanic) is to stick with the "mineral-based" oils -- more specifically "Castrol 20/50 weight" oil -- and to stay away from the synthetic oils on the 308 models. Here's a search on this topic:

    http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60065&highlight=308+oil

Perhaps others will chime in with their recommendations on trans. oil and the antifreeze issue.

You might check out a few of F-Chat sponsors regarding the test-pipe / exhaust alternatives:

    www.nicksforzaferrari.com

    www.tubistyleusa.com

    www.carobu.com

I personally never used the radio in the 308, as the symphony of the engine / exhaust was more enjoyable ;)

As for oil, I use the Ferrari recommended Agip SINT 2000 which is a synthetic-blend 10W-40 oil. I sell it at my shop if you are interested. It's kind of hard to come by (we get it shipped in from Rome, Italy) but a case (24-1 litre bottles) is enough for three oil changes, providing your car doesn't use or leak oil.

    Cheers,
    Aaron

We could get a group together and meet ya halfway!

Douglas, congrats on your purchase. Funny you asked about the vent on your dash, I was just talking to your brother (if he's really your Brother) about the same thing. Just pull straight up, they kind of snap out.

Everything I have had to do to the car required removing or disassembeling something major, I just figured the dash loover was also going to require jacking up the car, taking off one of the rear tires and inner fender and reaching to the the front with a custom Ferrari tool too!

I bug Brian for the expensive stuff, like head light switches, and cat converter sensors.

Now if I can just figure out how to change the front 4 spark plugs......
