Wonderful restoration, congratulations.
Just checking into this thread for the first time. Alberto, that is absolutely incredible! Have no other words. Literally speechless..
Thank you very much for your words and for your help, Morcal. For the Fchat Forum: Morcal is the former KKK engineer that followed, as official factory KKK turbocharger technician consultant, the 208 turbo development and Ferrari first turbocharged Formula1 program (means Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi 126 CK and 126C2...). No less! He went at Toni shop aside my car and gave me (and Toni) some tips how to restore in the best way the wastegate and how to check the turbocharger shaft play. I have to say that is was very useful as Toni had already checked the opening pressure of the wastegate (that was correct) but he didn't open the wastegate to check the seat as Morcal told to me. So I forced Toni to open it under my eyes and just then we saw the disaster there was inside, due to seat corrosion! That would have affected in a very big way the boost and lag at low RPM, that is the car weak point. At that point we had the Wastegate valve seat machined and welded, having a smooth seat and no leaks: so all the exhaust gases can go to the turbine without escaping from the wastegate when the boost pressure is under the openening level. In few words: now the cars works well and with some boost and lower lag also at low RPM. Thank you Morcal! ciao
Alberto, you are so lucky having the experts living right next to your door! Awsome threat and good luck with your brand new car.
yesterday I finally got the car at Toni shop, so I drove it 40 miles going home. Let me say this one is another world. Driving a car that has really everything new and checked (and even with a free flow muffler and new pistons that are much better than the originals) is what you should have to judge in a correct way a car. My wife silver one is an almost all new car and works great, but this one is completely all new in every detail and it's amazing. The lag is something that you can manage, you have some power also at very low RPM and the car is VERY pleasant to drive also in the "looking at the landscape" mode. I'm VERY happy of the result: It looks as I went back in 1982 (when I was 20 years old) and someone gives me the keys of a brand new Ferrari 208 turbo, with a turbocharged engine like Gilles Villeneuve F1 car had! I'm much less happy of the cost, but that's another thing: at least I can say "I have the most expensive 208 GTB turbo in the world"... ciao
Little things can make a man happy..... Shame they have to be so expensive. Enjoy it every way possible Alberto, you only live once!
"I have the most expensive 208 GTB turbo in the world"... Maybe, but I bet you have the nicest! Congrats! Money's best conversion function is into great memories Sounds like you beat the Second Law of Thermodynamics on this one Franny
Simply stunning! What a beautiful car and really nice to read the story behind it as well. Thanks for sharing Alberto
