Wow, I hate to see cars in this type of shape without being involved in some type of accident.

Might be worth more as a parts car.

...sad to see a GT4 is such a sore state. :(

Worse yet it is a series 1 car. There were only 363 US series 1 cars to begin with.
I'm starting to believe there are only a dozen or so left in good shape.

I think the starting price is about right and wouldn't have thought it would end any higher

    My thoughts exactly...
But hey,the X1/9 was also designed by Bertone!
    This must be a "Firrarit"?
    Bid on it:eek:nly one made....!
Must say that the starting price sounds more than right to me....

I was thinking the starting price was about $3000 too high. I live about an hour from this and I may go look at it WHEN it doesn't sell. I won't buy it but I may go look.

    David,

Thank you for posting. I think I am going to buy this car. I can use a number of the parts.

Looks like the lower front grill is a series II, like mine. And it has the bumpers I need. Also, the wheels would be a nice alternative to mine, even though they look like they're still just 14".

You know, aside from the crappy condition, I actually think the Targa conversion is pretty neat. I love Targa cars, the Bertone X1/9, etc. I wonder how much it would cost to do a quality cut job on the GT4? Probably more than the car is worth, unfortunately.

Hell, if JimG can modify his enzo, surely some one of us can do something neat with a GT4...

As Marcel told me once:never ever modify a Ferrari...
Maybe he's a little hard on this matter,I would make "bolt on/bolt off" mod's to a Ferrari...but no chain saw for me....sorry,this is the wrong way to go IMO...get yourself a GTS or a Mondial convertible...
PS IMO "quality cuts" don't exist....water,wind,noise,storage room for the top, seals, rigidity matters....there would always be "something you could have missed like your mother in law".....

I've already had a couple of PM's from folks wanting parts.

So, let me know what you're lookig for. If it's not something I need, then we can work something out. Everything I need, has pretty much been listed in the threads on my, engine removal and gear box work.

Bumpers, front grille, cross over fuel line, rear  window and I think I'll keep the gearbox (for now) in case I hit a brick wall on my rebuild.

Other than that; everything else is pretty much up-for-grabs. Someone (like the guy selling the heavily modified car or the person who bought it) might want the rear seat. There are the rims, although they look like 14" and probably aren't worth much. Sorry: The engine is all but spoken for already. I'm going to do a leak-down test and see if it will run first so I can test the gearbox.

I also think I want the A/C vents. I have the early single one. So that will make my wife happy.

I haven't bought the car yet. I'm just prepared to offer what it's been listed for, to get it out here. So I'll be out front, if it can be had for the price that's listed.

So, if I do end up with the car, just let me know what you need.

That car is worth every bit of 5k. Maybe even a couple grand more. Overhaul the engine and you could sell that for double the cost of the car. The tranny is probably worth 5k. The rims are an easy grand.

I'd bid on it if it was closer to me.

If I break even, I'll be happy. Much of that car will be unsaleable. Someone already wants the engine. Another engine here local (2blks) to me was for sale on eBay a few weeks ago for IIRC $3500+/-. So if I can get this one to run, it may be worth a little more than that. But probably not much. And my garage is full with, a 289, a 302, C4 trans, Alfa 2.0, 3 motor cycles, various extra parts, and now a 308 and it's gearbox in pieces. Anybody need an engine? :p

    So....

I've already got something to rebuild (my gearbox). And I'm not too interested in taking on another project until mine is finished. But I agree, if the engine was rebuilt, it would be worth quite a lot more. But then again, it depends on what it needs. If a piston is gone, or the valves are bent it could be quite costly. It also has quite a bit of corrosion, evident from the picture of the carbs. So... how much of that corrosion is inside which(?) cylinders? Because I can flat guarantee that all of those intakes and associated cylinders with open or half-open valves have some.

And what is it, that stopped the car from being run (i.e., used) in the first place? That too, whatever it is, will have to be addressed. In addition to belts, waterpump (doubtlessly shot), bad oil, shalack'd gas in the carbs, fuel lines, does it have any leaks(?), etc., et., etc.. It's certainly a parts-car at this point. The body looks pretty far gone to me, in addition to being a very odd conversion. Andmaintained cars from Ohio have corrosion. How much more this one?

I hope so samsong. I think so too, or I wouldn't buy it. I'm acutally just buying it for some of the more peculiar parts that I need and not for the engine. So that's all I really expect to recoup. For someone with an extra engine though, the frame might work for some sort of conversion. Not sure to what... A GTO maybe? Sure would be a chance to dial-in the frame and suspension for a project like that. But then again, it's a lot of money to sink into some of that very dated technology. Still.... ??? ;)

Then again, maybe just cut the whole top off and make it a cabriolet!!!

Actually, I think I saw a picture of one somewhere. Europe? I don't recall. Probably be very costly though, and might affect the integrity of the body too. And a convertible top and frame would have to be custom made.

Probably not worth it. Then again.. A cabriolet GT4? Wow.. Hmm...

    Okay... anyone for a game?

Actually, I know of a guy here in the Bay Area who is considering turning a GT4 into a Lancia Stratos (shortening the frame, of course). He already has the GT4, but I don't think he wants to cut his. This frame might be an excellent candidate!

I know ;) where there is an Allora kit for sale here in the US. I belive it is currently the only Stratos kit available here. Hawk has a distributor in San Diego, but they have no cars here that I know of. And wether or not the guy is still actually trying to sell cars here in the US, is somewhat vague.

The frame is significantly different than a GT4. And he'll have to go to Hawk or Napiersport (formerlly Allora) to get body parts anyway. This kit would be a lot less money than trying to hack one out of a GT4.

Here are a few pictures of it, sent to me by the owner:
