Preparing the 458 for the trip from The Netherlands to Italy in May to visit the Mille Miglia: New tyres .... I looked at the MPS4S , the latest sportscar tyre from Michelin. But is not yet available in K3 (F approved) version. So I went to the MPSS K3. Has to do with possible insurance problems , if ever having an accident the car: F approved tyres or not. Is this an issue in your country ? I know it is in certain countries also like Germany. Instead 295x30x20 I went for 305x30x20. One centimeter wider ... Is that O.K. DK308 ? Stickers of the renewed battery and my tyres I stick on the inside of the boot ! On my way back I crossed a "Toad crossing" ... How about that ? Mel, Nice photos (as always)! We don't have that issue in the US (which leads to some wild looking vehicles here) but like you said in Germany they do. When I lived in Germany what we did was to have the alternate tires entered into the vehicle registration. You had to have them approved by TUeV first. Same applied for wheels, etc.

O.K. ... above we spoke about the rear tyres which I installed ... 305's instead of 295's ... one week later, at the annual service, the Oem dealer went mad .. (tyres not bought by his firm) ... Stated: they should not be on this car; Ecu's would turn wrong etc ... I saw taht the Speciale has exact the same 305-30-20 so cannot be true ... I was to convince him the brand new MPSS tyres were O.K. (without any spacers)... Then we looked at the front tyres ... and now I went mad ... why ? From the side, the profile was at least 3 mmilimeters but the inside was on the canvas .. I never saw that without a lift. This is what the front tyres looked like, not normal imo ... F dealer stated that the wear at the inside of the 458s in his view is quite normal. So had to renew the front tyres ight away with 235 MPSS ... they only come in K1. So, in one week, all 4 renewed ... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I always change front and rear together... And i had keep by the 295 size because the italia rims are smaller then the Speciale rims and the 295/35 in my eyes has a nicer optic.
O.K. Christian, thanx for feedback. Did you ever hear about the wear on inside of the front tyres ? And yes: I did 18 rounds at the Hockenheim circuit last september My very best race day ever ... 305 and 295 differ one centimeter ... so it did not mean much for me ... I also do not use spacers. Had no ECU "comments"... Image Unavailable, Please Login
At last ! I found the original 458 radio/navi booklet which was only printed at the production start in 2010. Copied the pages for you all ... And thanx Gavin for starting the "Unofficial Media Guide". Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's fantastic, Mel! Extremely useful to all the community. Thank you for sharing with us. You're a legend! Kind regards, Nuno.
Hey Mel, that type of tire wear is normal. Since these are set up to get good grip, they are run with negative camber on the wheels to improve grip (when looking from the front, the top of the tires will be leaned inward). However, during street driving this tends to result in more wear on the inner edges of the tire since that is the part more heavily in contact with the road. It also speeds up tire wear due to another side effect called 'camber thrust' and is why tires wont last 40K miles on these like they do on a Toyota.
We are ready to drive to Italy next weekend and join the Mille Miglia 2017. Only for this trip I added the Netherlands colours on the bonnet ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
