When I was registering one of my cars at the DMV, the older Black woman in front of me got hit with multiple years of back taxes/registration/fees/sales taxes because she bought a car from the prior owner who hadn't registered his car in state.

Obviously laws vary state to state as to who gets stuck with the charges, but I physically watched the new Buyer get stuck with multiple thousands owed by the prior Owner here.

Plus, buying a car like that is a good way to get conned...by a forged title/billofsale...or by a cloned title. Do a Google search on "cloned titles" because it isn't pretty.

Buying from an unknown individual carries some risk.

Is that really possible? A new owner is responsible for costs before they even owned the car??? That just isn't right (IMO). What state was this?

It took me about a year to find my 328. Was it perfect? No, but I could tell it was one I could work with. It was mechanically sound and the seller was open and honest (he is still on FChat). So, I gave him his asking price and I have no regrets.....none at all. For me it was a good deal because I got the car I really liked and there were no hidden BS issues.

He raises his price. Big deal. Good luck in this economy. This is a buyer's market NOT a sellers market and I would have told him that to his face and walked away to never deal with him again. The first time you went and the thing was working correctly, I would have walked. That is not a good sign and if you end up buying this car chances are incredibly high that it will be a very bad experience. WALK AWAY. There are others out there.
