So earlier this year I decided to forego buying my 458 or Scud and buy a 2014 V10 Audi R8. I love this car and after all the mods it's really perfect but as you guys said its not a Ferrari. Every time I see a 458 my heart skips a beat and I just have to have one. The R8 has been incredible and amazing to drive, with the new exhaust it sounds like an old F1 car. I finally bit the bullet today and put it up for sale with the intent to buy a 458 once it sells, you guys called it, nothing will scratch the Ferrari itch but a ferrari!

Well it's great that you're in a position to have some fun. Now that you've had a fairly "rational" exotic car, you can enjoy one that's irrational. :D

And you bought the most rational, clinical high performance car out there!

And a year later almost to to the day it's for sale. You and I are going to have to have a little chat about who reaches 100K miles first. ;)

I came close to buying an R8 last year instead of my Ferrari, but I kept thinking what you are now experiencing.

So I went for the Ferrari. No regrets.

I really like the R8's but I have trouble paying $200,000 for an Audi. Just a mental thing I guess. Let us know the comparison between the 2 once you get the Ferrari.

Well your 14 R8 is quite different than 17 R8.

Owned '14 458 and I loved it--amazing car. For me I needed more of a livable 2 door and may grab 17 v10+ (since last NA ever most likely). Looked at 488, but still $100k more. So think depends on what you need it for and how you use it.

The 17 V10+ is nothing to sneeze at.

Not only that, it seems that many are asking in the mid-300s if you're going to get one out of the showroom.

I reckon the 458 is the way to go - less depreciation headaches than the 488 ( or the R8) .

The thing I would have thought if I was buying an R8 is to go a few years older and get a post depreciation steal....

Same with any car, buy right up front. If going R8, or any brand, now is a great time of year to steal one. Even 488's there are deals, but takes work. Paying over sticker for any car is just against my morals, hence 488 to back burner.

Here in the US early 5.2 V10s are in the $90ks, even for some spyders.

Cool! Hey, sometimes you have to try different things before you know what is right.

Did we also tell you that Ferrari maintenance is over the top and expensive and that dealing with Ferrari S.p.A. can be a pain in the ass and that parts even for a new car can be hard to find and that there are mechanical things, sometimes big, sometimes small, that will come up that will infuriate anyone who has paid that much money for a car, and that...? ;)

Maintenance on 458 post 2012 is still free, or at least it is in the U.K., seven year free servicing...... amazing value! That said, sold mine due to cancer, and bought a Bentley, slightly more useable when you struggle to bend in the middle, and every bump feels like getting shot! Do miss the 458 though, but the profit on sale over purchase cost helps return a smile!

    Different strokes.
As far an an everyday supercar its hard to beat the concept of a V10 manual R8. I think these cars will hold their value well.

The 458 is the largest leap in styling that ferrari has made since the 365BB and it looks stunning ! I'm sure it drives phenomenally in every way.

That said I'd rather have the artistically challenged 430 Scud.
    Always buy the "special" Ferraris.

I still love the styling of the 430 better, I'm well aware of the retardedness of Ferrari maintenance and the dealerships attitude toward customers. Ferrari 360 was what got me interested In cars in the first place, seeing a yellow 360 in 1999 in downtown Seattle while in college I told myself, I will own a Ferrari someday. My R8 is a badass car but damn it I just have to have a Ferrari

When I was there in 1999 at the same age, I also saw a yellow 360 coupe cruising through downtown (around Pine?). It was the first 360 I had seen.

Go scratch the Ferrari itch--it's worth scratching. I enjoyed mine and glad I scratched.

Now this just arrived and headed back to a daily (for me)...well until 488 prices drop finally, then I might itch again LOL.

With respect, that award goes to the 991.1 911 Turbo S, which is like riding in a very high speed train , even when you're driving at the limit in the rain.

You have made a truly rational decision. With all due respect for James Brown, Ferrari is the KING of soul. And you can even feel it in 10 mph commute traffic. Ferrari owners groups are great too. Notice I said groups with an 's'. I don't know of any other brand that has so many different groups. You will find at least two that fit you. An added benefit is the lowest ratio of poseurs to true enthusiast owners.
